Transport Windshield wipers erraticbase11 08-06-2003, 10:04 PM Hi This problem sounds similiar to the locks not working. My windshield wipers act erratic, perfect sometimes, not at all and then sometimes have a mind of there own. I am pretty sure it is a electrical connection as I have played around in there sometimes and it works fine again for a little while. I have removed the connector to the wiper motor and all looks okay, but I feel the problem is around that connection. Any suggestions on where the actual ground is or how to fix permanently. I do not think it is the switch. thanks shreck 09-18-2003, 09:18 AM I have tha same problem, for example they stopped working in anything other than hi. It would quit, and of course if you hit the dash the will come on. Worst case seniro. My wife was out in a bad storm and the wipers crossed each other bending botharms. ome broke the splines off the arm and it was hanging out the passenger side. I am thinking that the problem is a electronic part for the wipers. As the don not always go back to where they are supposed to be. base11 09-18-2003, 09:06 PM HI Sounds like the same problem. The pattern I have seen is it is much worse in hot dry weather for whatever reason. I had changed my switch last fall and they worked fine all winter till this spring. I actually broke down and brought the van in, but of course they worked perfectly. I think i have attached a permanent ground from the wiper motor to the frame, but the problem still occurs. I was told that there is also a smart card somewhere that controls this. I'm hoping now it works fine all winter and then I unload the van in the spring. shreck 09-19-2003, 12:01 AM I was looking for something on ebay yeaterday and came across some one selling a fix for these smart cards "attached to bottom of motor" I did a search on the internet and quickly found that the smart car is prone to cracked soldered joints. That would explain why it works better in the colder weather or even wet weather. My wiper only works on high. When it was raining the other day rather heavy and spraying my wiper started to work on the lower speeds and actually the quick wipe or what ever they call it. Here is the link to the information that hopfuly will help you. http://james.jaguar.net/subtopics/WiperFix.htm :smokin: base11 09-24-2003, 07:04 PM Wow thats an amazing site, talking about the solder to fix the wiper motor/smart card. I phoned the GM dealer and she did say there is a bulletin with this exact problem, but not for the 95 transport. But for virtually every other 95 GM truck type vehicle. I thened phoned GM and she confirmed the transport is not included in this recall. Pretty sad really, its probably the exact same wiper motor. This location is way to hard for me to take out examine and fix, so as long as the coolish weather stays here I should be okay. The Isabela rainfall last week the wipers worked perfect for the first time since last March. thanks for your help. 96transport 09-25-2003, 08:18 PM Thank you very much for the pictures and explaination. I will take out the motor for one last time (for a long time). gask99 01-03-2004, 11:21 PM I have a 1990 Trans Sport. My wipers had a mind of their own. My wiper motor circuit board looked just like the ones in the picture from the web site mentioned above. ALL 5 solder joints were cracked/cold. I resoldered the joints and I am back on the road. Thanks for the information. Max_Power1972 05-26-2004, 07:43 PM My wife's van had the same problem. Talked to a couple of guys who are pretty sharp in these matters. They both said it was probably a ground issue. They also said the GM had a major recall a while back because of problems with the circuit board in the wiper motor. We were able to run a ground wire to the wiper motor and it seemed to fix the problem. The cost for the new circuit board was about $36 if you decide to replace it. echerr 05-31-2004, 01:14 PM The easiest thing to do is to replace the circuit board, which controls the wipers. They cost $35 at Full Service Auto Parts and it takes only ten minutes to replace. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
