clutch pedal travel

yeah a bit ago i drove my friend's 96 jetta and was surprised at the differences between the two. like not having to press the clutch in to start the 96. and with my 98 the clutch starts to slowly catch with the clutch half out and my friend's 96 catches like the last 1/4 or 1/8 in that area. is that the difference between all 96 and 98 jetta's? or is somethin brokin

Lightbulb clutch

if the clutch catches near the floor it needs to be tightened or you might need a new cable. A new cable will catch almost all the way out
