99 Silverado ext cab wind noise

Does any one know how to stop the wind noise around the extended cab side vent windows. The latches seem flimsey and loose, can these be repaired, adjusted or replaced. The weatherstripping look intact, but maybe it's worn out/dried out/compressed to the point that it needs replaced, can the weatherstrip be easily replaced? This is my first chevy pickup and I like it, but the wind noise is too much.

take it to a gm dealer they have screws they can put in the latch itself what it does is draw the latch closer to the window frame creating a tighter seal sounds cheesy but it works,the only other option is to have the window and latch assembly replaced($$)the repair with the screws should no more than an 1hr and whatever the shops labor rates are plus maybe $2.00 for parts good luck

I have the same problem in my 99'. Have you ever taken it through a car wash? I have, and my cup holder gets filled to the rim with water from the passenger side rear window.

Dealer said they couldn't reproduce it (with a garden hose)...Wouldn't fix it.....! I just stick some paper towl in the cup holder now when I go through the wash.

Do you have a bug deflector on the hood? If so, you might try removing that and see if it helps. It can't hurt.

There is a TSB about this and i had my rear windows replaced under warranty.

If your outta warranty then youll have to spend some money.

The best thing to do is to bring it back to the Chevy dealership, this happens a lot and they will fix it. It is a factory defect.

Here is the actual bulletin on the crappy window design. It is only good news if your vehicle is still under warranty cause the window is over $170.00 bones.

1999-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Extended Cab Pickup Models (Silverado and Sierra)

Built Prior to February 1, 2000

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2000 model year, remove service procedures, and change the part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 99-08-48-001 (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

Condition
Some customers may comment on wind noise coming from either of the body side quarter windows while driving with the quarter windows closed. The wind noise may be more noticeable at speeds over 56 km/h (35 mph).

Cause
An insufficient seal of the window frame to the body or an improper window latch length may cause this condition.

Correction
A new body side quarter window kit is available to correct this condition. This window kit includes the window frame and glass, three frame centering screws that reinforce the sealing of the window frame to the body, and an instruction sheet. The window frame also features a reinforcement latch tab to improve latch efforts and function.

Replace the applicable body side quarter window on affected vehicles. Use the appropriate part number listed below.

Refer to the applicable Service Manual for quarter window removal and additional installation procedures. Also refer to the instruction sheet provided with the window kit for installation information.

I haven't tried any homemade remedies yet, but that's the only way I know to fix it.

ughhhh not the news i wanted to hear (mines out of warrenty) but ok. i was hoping it was just maybe a latch that could be replaced.

This may sound way too simple, but my '00 Z71 has a slight wind noise from the passenger rear area, too. It seems more prominent when the wind is coming from the driver's side. My fix is to turn the heat/ac to "recirculate"... I don't know if my problem is the window or the weatherstrip where the two doors meet, but simply setting the heater to recirculate gets rid of the problem for me. There is no noise from the driver's side quarter window, so the thought of the windows being bad never crossed my mind!

I had the same problem on my 97 z71, since I never used the side windows i went to the hardware store and got some 1/2" foam tape and applied it to the window to where it would seal against the factory weatherstrip, problem solved

Before spending any money I would simply take the latch apart and put it back together. Most likely a screw or two loosened up and all you have to do is tighten it up and use blue loctite so that it doesn't back out again. This is at least worth a try before you start spending money, and a tube of loctite is only $3. Keep us up to date.
