Anyone have any info on the 2002 Frontier XE 15" rims? They are that pewter color similar to the SC rims. I was curious if anyone has them for their X, how much they would cost, and If they are the same backspacing/offset as the stock 01 X XE rims?? I'd appreciate any info.
Thanx.

I think the rule is any wheels that comes on the Frontier will also fit on the X. I mean the X is based on the Frontier platform so it makes sense.

I've already seen a 2001 X with black Frontier wheels.

Are you talking about something like this?

Those are the 17" SC wheels, they look great, but I'd be scared to take them offroad. They had similar ones that were 15" alloys, in that same color on an XE frontier. I'll take sum pix of them when I go to my dealership on Wednesday. Thanx.

A couple of things to think about. You are going to pay out the @#$ for factory wheels of any kind. And you are going to fall on your knees and cry when you take one out rock climbing (if you do). If you are going to change rims, find a lower cost aftermarket rim that will accomplish the same thing for less money. That way when you take out a rim it will cost a $100 or so instead of $250 plus. Just my two cents from experience.

I guess I'll be sticking with the ARE-767s then. I guess you cant go wrong with $40 per rim. Thanx

Ken (01salsaX) this is ken, right?

I currently can't run anything larger than 31x10.5 on my ARs. I have found mixed views on the possiblity of running 33x10.5 with a body lift.
KillerX is installing a 2" body lift to clear up some rubbing problems with his 33x10.5 KAs. When we test it, I'm going to do some careful measuring and see if I can run the KAs on the ARs. I'd like to be able to keep my ARs, I like the black rim and the extra width, but I'll get rid of them if I can't run 33x10.5 KAs.

Just something to think about if you plan on going to a larger tire.

Thanks David for the little piece of info. I think eventually when I go with a larger tire I'll probably end up keeping the stock rims, but for the time being I'll get the cheap rims so If they get destroyed no biggie.

Cool!!!! Just throwing the info out about tire size limitation so you don't get burned.

Goliath,

What is your rim backspace? A typical 15" AR rim backspaces at 3.75". If that is the case, that is why you have rub. I am testing a 4.5" backspace today and will see how the .625" difference affects the X as a whole. Most of the rub I have seen has been on extreme articulation on the right side. The small difference based on my measurements should allow me to run my new tires (32") with minimal rub (my new tires also use a narrow section width, the equivalent of a 9.50/32). Of course that is based on measurements, not practical application. Once I get the new rims in place, I will be testing it using a rack and wheel stands my company uses to support limos in the air. I will shoot photos as I do it and let you guys know what happens.

War.

I'm not 100% sure of the backspacing. They are standard AR-767 15" rims. I got them from a friend what was going with 32" swampers and couldn't run them because of contact with the finders. At the time I didn't expect to go above 31", but the more I wheel, the more I want larger tires (ie. 33"). I got the 5 rims with 5 M/Ts for $300 or $350, can't remember right now, but the deal was too good to pass up.

I'm hoping with a suspension lift and a 2" body lift I can clear 33x10.5 on the ARs, but I'm not sure yet.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Goliath,

Backspacing is one of the problems in using 15" rims. Finding one with a 4.5" backspace is next to impossible. You can easily use your spare to measure backspacing on the rim. Just measure from the backside of the mounting plate to edge of the rim before the lip begins. That will give you a good guesstimate without getting real precise. I will lay odds if it is a 15" rim with an 8" width that it uses 3.75" backspacing. The narrower section width will help, but moving the wheel that far outboard can cause steering stress. Optimal is to move it as little outboard as possible to fit the tires you need. I am interested in knowing the backspace and how it fits the new tire as well as how the steering handles the change. Also if anyone comes up with a decent looking reasonably priced 15" rim with a 4.5" backspace, let me know so I can add it to my tires section I am getting ready to put on my website. Unfortunately I have to wait a few more days for my new rims thanks to my oddball choice in size. Although it is a production rim, there is little demand for a 4.5" backspaced rim and no one stocks it. It now looks like it will have to come direct from AR's warehouse.
