Just a quick question, I've never cleaned my egr ports before( I have a 1997 Accord I4) wouldnt that gunk get sucked up into the engine? Would it hurt anything?

to answer your question, no it wont hurt your engine. its more of an "emissions" concern. nothing will get sucked into your engine that will do damage as a result of these plugs being clogged. i say leave em clogged, who wants exhaust running back into thier intake anyways, or you could make an EGR block off plate, or just un hook the vacuum hose to the EGR valve and cap off both ends.

Well I think I'll just clean then out, I like my car running the way Honda designed it, I dont think it would run right if you unhooked the vaccum to it....

Yes, clean it. During normal cruising throttle position the car will have a very lean Air/fuel mixture, thus raising the temperature of the combustion chamber. If this temperature gets too high it could create a pre-ignition situation which is bad on just about everything. The EGR system is not active during full throttle or idle conditions so I don't understand why anyone would disable it anyway.
