Question Need Shifter & Linkage Help

I've just purchased a 1970 Nova. It came stock with a 6 cyl, but the previous owner put a 400 small block and a ST-10 W.G. 4speed manual transmission into it. The problem is he could not get the linkage hooked up properly and the shift gate is 2nd, 1st, 4th, 3rd - he's placed the linkage upside down because lack of room. Has anyone had experience with the ST-10 W.G. 4speed Transmission? Will a standard Hurst shift and linkage work or do I need to modify the tranny tunnel?

Thanks
