I've got an 89 Fox and from what I understand its the exact same engine (1.8L SOHC 8v) that was used in the jettas of the same time period, just mounted front to back instead of side to side.
Is this true and are the injection systems the same as well or if not can they be swapped back and forth if the engines are the same.
Needless to say I'm getting very bored with the stock 83hp and since I love the lines of the car I'm going to tune it. So if the engines are the same then jetta tuning tech is applicable, if not then is it possible to do an engine swap?

No, it's not a direct swap. You engine used CIS fuel injection unlike the Golf/Jetta's CIS-E.
The 1.8L 90hp/105lbft JH engine used in the '83-'84 Golf GTI/Jetta GLI/Scirroco/Cabriolet and in the '85-'89 Jetta and Cabriolet howerver, used CIS.
