Hey mate welcome along! gald you like the Forums.

The Escort has been around sice the late 60s, and in the UK was only just recently replaced by the Focus.
However there were 2 RWD versions, the MK1 from late 60s, the MK II from '75 till either 81 or 82 when it was replaced with a FWD version that remained relativly unchanged untill the late '98ish when the Focus was released.

In the US it was first introduced in '81, but it was not related to the UK version, instead it was a rebadged Mazda 323.

So you dont actualy have 1st gen escort.

Once you've got the basic bolt ons there is little more you can do, with out cracking the motor open and doing things like porting the head and adding cams or turbocharging.
A relativly easy swap would be the 1600cc DOHC Turbo from the Japanese 323, comes with 160hp and has some potential for more.
But also remember that much of a power increase will also require a serious brake upgrade.

Good to have you at AF racescort! Always good to see more Escort owners, this Escort forum is really growing. I do recall seeing some other 1st gen owners around, hopefully they'll get in contact with you!

We did get the Escort here in 1981, but it was actually an all Ford car. The car continued with some engine changes and facelifts, but it was not until 1991 that the "2nd gen" came out, then based on a Mazda 323 chassis. In 1981, we had the 323, except it carried a "GLC" badge. In 1986, when the 323 was redesigned, we also got it as a 323. Mercury Tracer appeared shortly after as a slightly restyled 323 to replace the 1st gen Escort based Mercury Lynx, but looked nothing like the Escort. Then in 1991, both the Escort and Tracer were changed and had very similar looks and interchangeable parts.

I did a search, and all I could find was this:

http://autoworldaccessories.com/part...ake&veh=Escort

They list the kit, but show no pictures, and say it's discontinued/unavailable
