Modification questionjjordan189 11-20-2001, 01:21 PM I have a 1990 240sx hatchback i was wondering if anybody knew if it would be possible to drop a 300zx engine into my 240sx without having to switch everything in the car SilviaJSpec 11-22-2001, 03:35 PM sure...you can put a 300zx motor in a 240sx...but you wouldn't have a) a radiator/condensor...b) a fan...slower acceleration, and spend about 4000-5000 extra to displace all of the electronic, fluids, and new engine mounts, not to mention the fact that you won't have much of an intake manifold. first of all...no one in their right mind would place a 300zx motor in a 240sx..it's TOO SMALL. Sorry to disappoint, but that is why the Japanese are innovative enough to create a 2.0 liter engine swap with turbo...you have to think..a 300zx has a dual throttle body, which means it's a V-6..not an INLINE 6 like the Skyline R-34 Vspec. in other words...3 cylinders are on one side of the block, and the other 3 are on the other, which means slower acceleration...also...the throttle body (intake) are positioned to come to the front of the car just behind the radiator...not very effective if your car is designed like the s-13, 14, or 15. If you want a engine swap that supplies a PUNCH worthy of smoking every bandwagon civic, integra, etc....then i suggest the fairly new concept of the RB25DET motor swap..which basically is the skyline motor from the r-32 or the non-GT-R r-33...2.5 liters of displacement, turbo upgradable....and all you'd need is the matching front end intercooler...you're set Morpheus XIII 11-24-2001, 07:37 AM Originally posted by SilviaJSpec no one in their right mind would place a 300zx motor in a 240sx..it's TOO SMALL. The SR20DET is a long block inline. It makes plenty of space longitudinally for the VG30DE/DETT. I don't know where you get that the VG30 being a "dual throttle body" makes it any slower. Do you mean that it has two banks of cylinders? Because RB26DETT has SIX throttle bodies. Not only that, but engine format doesn't mean much since some of the fastest 6-cylinder cars in the world have two banks of cylinders, such as a horizontally opposed Porsche motor. Are you serious?! It's called ram air induction, and it works well for naturally aspirated motors. As for forced induction, the location of the intake manifold makes no matter, since the blower/turbo's plumbing will find its way in. There is one good benefit for using the VG30 for the 240SX: Widespread availability and common shop knowledge. Oh yeah, by the way its legal. One drawback may be the necessity of a custom cradle or fabricated engine mounts for the VG. ECU linking or trading shouldn't be all that difficult with the high compatibility between Nissans. xxtrizz 02-22-2004, 09:27 PM I had to bring up this old post haha I read it and laughed. Why wouldnt you have a radiator/ condensor? All he would have to do is get a custom made aluminum lines for the new A/C compressor and bolt it up to his old condensor. Also all he would need is cusstom radiator hoses for the radiator. DId you think everything should fit in magically or something? He wouldnt have a fan? Ever hear of electrical fans.....? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
