I need to program the remote for my 1998 windstar. I have the 400 or 400k factory alarm. The dealer wants to charge for the programing. Can anyone help????

I have a Ford after-market security system with remotes that have only 2 buttons, ARM and DISARM (no panic). THis was installed byu the dealer and the key fob has the Ford logo but no serial number. It does not respond to programming by the usual Key/Igntion off/on 10 time cycle. Any ideas how i can program in a new key fob I bought on EBay?

I am not sure other than the dealer?
Did you check the remote numbers.
Thay are located on the back of the remote control.
The FCC ID number's should match.
You said that you have an after market alarm, that was dealer installed.
Can you contact the original dealer?
I assume you also found the instructions to the remote programming. If i remember correctly you need to complete all of the steps with each remote.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks PastorBeenie for the info. The FCC numbers match up exact. There is no serial or brand name on the remote/fob, but I found from Dealer and Internet that it is a Code-Alarm brand (no web site for this brand... go figure!), close to their current Pro100 model which looks excatly the same as my 5 year old remote/fob. Today I got from the Ford dealer the name of the local vendor that did the aftermarket install, called him, and he told me the programming process:
1. turn key to on, 2. Press alarm "button" hidden under the dash, 3. While holding button down after 15 seconds, the locks and horn should activate 3 times, 4. While still holding down "button" depress ARM on new remote/fob, 5. Locks should cycle on/off to acknowledge new remote/fob works, 6. Turn key to off .
I will try this when I get the minivan at home tonight though I looked for a Security system box or button earlier and never found anything but the horn under the hood with wires leading to ignition key wiring block. I'll let this forum know success or not. Thanks a ton for all the help.

Cleek, I will repeat a post that you may or may not have seen that might help.
Cycling the ignition key on/off 8 times puts the car into programming mode if you have the 98 or newer Ford security system. I have a 98 windstar with an aftermarket Ford authorsised system that does not work the same way. Here is what I ahve been told:

The bypass button they are refereing to is usually within arms reach. It should be almost directly below the steering column. The sequense they have given you is the same for our 1998 15 passenger church van. It sounds like you may have the correct information. If your vehicle responds to the sequence but you can not get the remote to work, take it to the dealer. If you sweet talk them they will usually do it for free. It will take them about 30 seconds.
Good Luck

Re: 1998 Keyless Entry

The Bypass button looks like what on your 15 passenger van? I remember seeing under the steering wheel area a small plastic black box, attached by tie wrap, about 3 x 2 x 1/2 inches in size with a single white ribbed 3/16" wide button on it. I assumed it was the fuel cutoff restore switch in case of accident or rollover, but in hindsight, it may well be the security bypass button. Does this appear to sound like your security bypass programming button?

Re: Re: 1998 Keyless Entry

SUCCESS !! Found the Security button under my 98 Windstar dash on the far left side of the panel unde rthe steering wheel. I have seen it before but did not know it's purpose: it's small with a black top and mounted through the under-dash plastic.
Here are the steps I took:
Ford dealer said to ask the vendor who installed the system locally for Ford. Called "Code-Alarm" brand vendor locally who directed me in the steps to program this OEM aftermarket Ford alarm. Ford used this OEM brand in 98 Fords in the Seattle area at least. Turn ignition key to ON, find security system "button" under dash near steering wheel, (which was located on the far left side of the under-panel right near the door jamb.. you can see it from seat level), hold the button down for 10-15 seconds, locks and alarm horn will cycle 3 times, this signifies programming mode is active, while still holding down button press ARM on each of the remotes/fobs wanting to program, system will signify successful programming of each by a door lock/horn sound brief cycle, turn key to off and remotes are now good. Remotes/Fobs have to be of same FCC code, in my case GOH-M24, to work.
The key to this aftermarket Ford dealer installed system programming is finding the security system button within easy reach of the steering wheel. This system DOES NOT work as a Ford Factory installed keyless system does in going into programming mode by ignition key on/off sequencing.
Two used remote fobs cost me $9 each on Ebay. Would have cost me $76 each at Ford dealer. So I'm pleased though it took some detective work to get programming sequence. Thanks again Pastor Bennie !!
