Yesterday at the track. (long)

Yesterday I went out to the local ghetto track for the hell of it. Its an 1/8 mile with no lights, just a flagman starting the races. (The real track is 45 minutes away.) It was only $5 to run so its a tough deal to beat.

1st race - 5spd accord with exhaust. killed him by~7 carlengths in an 1/8 mile

2nd race - same accord different driver - ~5 carlenghts

3rd race - mid-80's Z28 - got him by about 1.5 cars

4th race - V6 5spd cavalier - got him by ~4 carlengths

5th race - F-body 6-spd SS Camaro with 4:10 gears and Centerforce clutch - He only took me by about 10-12 feet! I was expecting a full on raping from this one.

6th race - Total sleeper! Mid-80's V6 Camaro with a 350 swap and ????. He even kept it single exhaust to enhance the sleeper effect. I only got him by about 3 feet.

7th race - Next-to-the-last-gen non-turbo RX-7. Car had completely stripped interior with racing seats. I didn't ask about mods since it was non-turbo. This thing launched real strong but couldn't do much after that. Got 3 cars on him.

8th race - Eagle Talon TSI with aftermarket low-comp pistons, rods, FMIC, 3 inch exhaust, running at 19 psi and claiming 300 horses. He killed me by 18-20 carlengths because I launched in neutral.

9th race - immediately lined up again with the Talon. He got me by about a car and a half. I butchered the launch.

10th race - lined up with the Talon again 1/2 hour later. I lowered my tire pressure this time. I got him on the launch and crossed the line about 3-5 feet in front! He messed up his launch and was gaining fast. If it would have been a full 1/4, he would have easily walked me.

Now before the BS flags start flying, I know that an SS Ls1 should/could have easily humiliated me by multiple car lenghts. I don't think I'm capable of staying with one, but it did happen and I'm just as puzzled as you probably are. Both the Camaro and Talon owners were asking me how the hell I kept up with them and said that I had to be spraying. I talked to them for a while and they were both pretty cool guys. The Talon owner said that the only cars that can keep up to him like I did are big V8's. I did get to see the Talon and the SS run together. They were pretty much even, I couldn't tell who won. Anyway, I suprised a bunch of people and I'm happy

Im not doubting your story...because in drag racing, you never know. But your signature says a 14.59 1/4...an LS1 SS with mods...Im thinkin low 13's with a good driver. But like I said...Anything can happen.

All that I can figure is that the guy didn't know how to drive. But damn, I think Stevie Wonder could beat me if he was driving an SS.

Well, he either sucked at driving his SS, or he revved way too high on the launch and just spun on his launch. I've done that before, spinning through first gear, and had a 60' of 2.678 and a quarter mile time of 14.329 on that run. It's a shitty feeling doing something like that, but it's entirely possible. Would be interesting to see how you'd have faired against the SS on a 1/4 mile track, because that's where that LS1 will hit it's stride...

Congrats on the kills Bluebird. It's really easy to spin off the line with these things. I've yet to get a sub 2.1X sixty foot.
