This is the new 6 Series, being introduced 14 years after the original one was discontinued. It's coming out the same time as the X3, at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, known as the 645 Ci Coupe. BMW says it provides 'power and performance within a breathtaking, contemporary design'.

The launch car will feature the 4.4-litre engine with VALVETRONIC, the same fitted to the luxury 745i. This V8 produces a 0-62 mph time of just 5.6 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph, churning out 333 bhp and developing 332 lb.ft (450 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm!

BMW will offer three different six-speed gearboxes with power of course going to the rear wheels. As well as a manual six-speed transmission, the new BMW 645Ci comes with an optional six-speed automatic with Steptronic and a Forumla 1 style Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with steering wheel paddles and gearshift lever.

Available in the UK from December 2003, the BMW 645Ci Coupe will be joined by a convertible model in 2004. I love the original 6 Series, and this, the sole official picture currently avilable doesn't show much of the car, I presume it will take styling cues from the 7 Series, new 5 Series and concept Z9, and surely be a stunning car.

I'm way disappointed in this and the new 5's design, BMW sales are going to take a nose dive. Their Z9 show car was hideous hence the ugliness in the 5 and 6.

I think the car looks beautiful from the side! It has a classic GT shape and really is my kind of car; a powerful, large, luxury coupe!

To each his own, but I think it is too Hyundai. The G35 looks way better to me, and the price diff will be staggering.

I believe they're in a different league in terms of size, power, etc. I was made to understand that this is a competitor to the MB SL whereas the G35 is more towards the SLK/CLK.

Rumor has it there'll be an M6 with a V10 producing around 500 bhp!

The new 6 is a very nice car, I don't see anything Hyunday about it. :headshake Hyundays are very ugly.

Hey Folks. Was shopping around for a nice 5-series and ran across this forum. Looks like an interesting place to hang. :grinno:

I'm way disappointed in this and the new 5's design, BMW sales are going to take a nose dive.

Funny you should mention that. The local BMW dealer here told me he expects used 5 and 7 series prices to climb because many folks find the new styles to be ugly. Just my luck as I am looking for an off-lease 5. :banghead:

It's been 17 years since I gave up my 633CSi. Can't wait to get back into a BMW. :naughty:

Looks like an upgraded Tiburon - but I think someone should digitally alter the picture and show a nice smooth streamlined trunk - then it will look 200% better.

Looks like a cross between a Dodge Stratus and Nissan Z. Derivative and unappealing. :puke:

Bangle designs are either ugly or derivative. The engineering brilliance is being overshadowed by stupid gadgets like i(can't)Drive(because I'm too busy struggling with this dumbass knob). BMW is suffering at the hands of the press for the first time since the 60's. Even Consumer Reports dissed them -- the new 7 outranked only one other large luxury car -- the Lincoln Town Car. It's a shame.

Yep, Bangle should change his name to Mangle! Saw a new 5 in person at Road Atlanta, it just isn't BMW, a tragedy that this guy has carte blanche design privileges. :disappoin

The Six looks pretty good to me;maybe its because the 5 is so ugly.I saw a lot of them in Germany last week. The new 6 is in the BMW showroom in Munich and looks much better than in photos. If you visit the BMW UK official website they have the full British spec for the car - it is now on sale there and you can see the options available. I expect they will be set up as packages here. I have been told to expect my car in April 2004.

I've seen this afternoon the new 6 Series on the road (in Saint Germain en Laye). Quite nice !

definatly nicer than the 5 series (what a mistake that was) but still not worth the 80k+ sticker. Id take a porsche 911 or MB SL.
wish i could get my hands on a 540i six speed--one of the finest sports sedans ever~!

Just like all other new BMWs, this car is also "Bangled". Here are my ratings for all the Bimmers designed by him...ENJOY

7-SERIES(2002): This odd-looking car came out and immediately repelled many potential customers with its "not the luxury-sedan kinda car' looks and the ever confounding iDrive. The worst is yet to come.
Z4(2003): I thought Z3 was awful, this car is mechanically much better but visually worse.
5-SERIES(2003): One word, three syllables...DI-SAS-TER!!!
6-SERIES(2004): The best looking in the pack, the front looks surprisingly good, but a very ugly rear view. I mean come on, you are supposed to design Bimmers, not Hondas...

With Bangle in charge, BMW is destined to make losses. Look at the new 7's(E65/66). The car came out 2 years ago and is already subject to a face lift.

And they all have "iDrive while you tune the radio"...

Oh I forgot to mention... If you think that it cannot get worse than the 5-series, wait for the launch of the all new 1-series... HAHAHA....
