Scatch! Normal reputation
The transmissions in the Neon are very strong, both MTX and ATX. The ATX is adapted from a V8/RWD tranny, so it is extremely robust, even if it is rather old school and out-dated.

Transmissions in Neons usually die from lack of maintenance, or abuse. That said, any part can fail any time for any reason.

Almost 154,000+ miles on my original tranny I get mine serviced every 15,000 miles. I did have to replace the torque converter adn get a rebuild at 51K miles though. I had a front end accident where the line from the tranny to the radiator had split then I drove the car up a driveway to get it off the road, just 20 feet with no fluid did it in Fortunately it was covered with the rest of the repairs. Other than that though I haven;t had any more problems. As long as you are good to it, it should be good to you

20 feet w/ no fluid did in your transmission? I'd hate to think of what I did to my old bronco's tranny... try about 10 miles w/ no fluid, I don't see how I made it
