hiRoyR 07-05-2003, 09:24 AM I have a 89 pontiac tempest. The problem I am having is that everytime i press on the brake the car shuts off. The car is a standard. Do anyone of any ideas. thanks pcv 07-05-2003, 05:18 PM A number of things can cause your problem! Does it stall when coming to a stop or after you start the car and step on the brakes and the car shuts off? At first thought you might have a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum lines to make sure they ar not off, kinked or cracked. Replace as necessary. Otherwise the car will have to be scanned to catch a misbehaving sensor. Good Luck. BeoWulfz 07-05-2003, 05:46 PM Take the car to a GM dealer and tell them to reset and reboot the main computer I had the same prob and the reset fixed the problem right up its a known problem with GM... its the Idle control which is bugged when you hit the brakes it drops the car to a lower then normal idle which is causing the stalls Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
