The Escort is just Turbo 1.8, intercooled, larger radiator, deep dish pistons (lowering compression to cope with the increased boost), Rod Millen computer, and free flow exhaust. They say 0-60 in 6.2, I think that's a little conservative. But that is about the same as an M3.
