Whether you use a turbo timer, or do it yourself, you still have to know how long to sit for. Ethan_R33, those times are around what I've been told also.
And as for turbo timers making it easy for theives: nope. Not if you have a decent alarm and immobiliser, and get it wired in to work with the turbo timer. The one I'm looking at getting, the dudes wire in with the alarm, and buil.d little electronic modules so that while the timer is running, obviously the immobiliser's not running, but the second the timer stops, the immobiliser cuts in. And if someone got into the car while the timer was running (so the engine wasn't immobilised)... and managed to ignore the 130dB screamer in their face under the dashboard... as soon as they drop the handbrake (which they'd pretty much need to do, if they're going to drive away) the turbo timer will stop, the engine will switch off, and the immobiliser will cut in.
So how does that make it easy to steal?? If someone wants your car, they WILL take it: they will come and tow it away. But I can't see how a turbo timer makes it any easier.
