I'll try to do my girlfriends Jeep Grand Cherokee for the second time, everything will be done by hand,I'm really concern about the outside.

Here's what I have :

Maguire's Car Shampoo ( Gold Class )
Maguire's Wax ( Gold Class Liquid )
Maguire's Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray
Maguire's Hot Rims /Cool Care All Wheel Cleaner
Rain X
Mothers California Gold Clay Bar System

The 1st time I only washed,no wax or clay, was too hot.Next time I want to be done right.Remember all this will be done by hand.
Am I missing something ?What would be the right procedure for the products I have.

Can you guys guide my on the step by step on this.

Thanks a lot

Never clean/wash/wax in direct sunlight

1. Quick rinse
2. Spray chemicals, scrub, rinse. bugs, wheels, tar, tires wheels wells, etc.
3. Wash main body with car wash shampoo
4. Dry with a chamois, all crack, door & trunk jambs, gas filler door, etc.
5. Clay bar to remove contaminants(clay bar=cleaner)
6. Polish
7. Glaze
8. Wax or sealer(alway protect after you clean)
9. Clean outside windows
10. Apply tire shine & dress trim
Polishes are designed to produce a shine in the paint surface. It does this my removing the top layer of paint, also light oxidation & light scratches/swirls. Polishing by hand can have very little effect. Apply it as you would wax except buffing off before it dries. When working by hand I dont do the circular motion, staight back and forth to reduce any swirling.

Glaze fills imperfections/micro scratches

Compound is highly abrasive to remove heavy oxidation/scratches.

Wax is to protect, may only last 30-60days. Carnauba wax!

Sealant is polymer & last longer than normal wax. 4-6months Car dealer sell this stuff on new car for $500 or more. My cost to apply the same product is $3-5.00 per car/truck.

By far the best reults will come from a multi step process done with a high speed polisher. These give major swirls in the wrong hands. Random orbit buffers will give decent results with 50% less work time than by hand & no swirls!

Order of use:

1. Compound - most aggressive(only used on severe paint damage)
2. Polish - slighly aggressive
3. Glaze- non aggressive, fills in flaws left from polishing
4. Wax - provides protection, not shine
5. Sealant - deepens color while protecting longer than wax.(hard to work with, black is the worst) Use black paint sealant for black cars.

Thanks Jack:bigthumb:

The car's painting looks very good, just a few scratches almost invisible.2 weeks ago I washed, dryed with chamoi then 100% cotton towel,it looked very nice.
I want to know if the painting look almost new,I have to go thru all the steps, like if the car was beat up.

Which polish and glaze would you guys recomend ?

Do I really need to glaze it ???

Thanks again

If the paint is in good condition I would recommend the following process:

1. Wash/dry (bugs, tar, etc)
2. Clay Bar
3. 1-step cleaner wax (meguiars is decent for over the counter)

or

1. wash/dry
2. clay bar
3. show car or new car glaze by meguiars
4. wax

or

1. wash/dry
2. clay bar
3. polish(swirl remover by meguiars)
4. wax

polishing is almost a waste of time when doing by hand since little results if any will be seen. For paint in good condition you will notice more with the hand rubbed glaze(wet look/depth in color). If you want the process to be quick - try using Paint Perfection Glaze, I use more of this thany any other product.Paint Perfection Glaze (http://topoftheline.com/hitoncleanse.html)
Most the products i use are made by Hi-Temp but for over the counter stick with Mothers & Meguiars -- Turtle Wax stuff sucks

To make apply/removing wax/polish/glaze invest into a cheap Craftsman orbital buffer, it will cut work time in 1/2, leave no swirls, & better results than by hand.

The best glaze (http://www.zymol.com/vintage2.htm)
