what do you consider a ricer?

Some people call anything with a four cylinder a ricer even domestics like cavs, focus, and neon. Others call all japanese cars ricers. I consider a ricer to be any japanese economy car (civic, corolla, etc.) that people put shiny wheels on, and tint windows, put decals on it and crap like that but don't spend money to actually make the thing fast. What do you think?

This isn't really a topic for the Pontiac forum, but I will reply anyway. The term ricer or rice burner, at least for me, started when people used it to classify stock Japanese cars. But I consider a ricer almost any car that have stupid mods that are just for looks and don't improve performance, like you said. This includes big spoilers, fart pipes (especially huge ones), ground fx, neons (sometimes they are cool), and NOS. Nos does improve the performance of the car, but that is the only way these four-bangers will beat a respectable vehicle. And if these mods are done to an American car, it is still 'ricey'. I also hate huge speakers, but that's another story.

Actually NOS is just an overhypped Mod... yeah it boosts yer performance but in turn majorly messed with the engine damaging it by each burst... hell my 3.1V6 Tempest smoked a NoS power elantra on the track and my car is flat out baseline STOCK except for the rims thats it Hell I even have the year GM made the cars with self changing paint the faster you drive the more paintloss there is :) hehehehe:dogpile:

oh yeah just for laughs heres my car with the self changing paint job ( Note the rims are stock cuz I aint drivin on em in winter there polished aluminum I dun need the road salt to destroy them )

oh yeah its not How fast the car goes its how well you can drive and handle them :)

Really, i have been getting tired of hearing this and i have no clue why this poped up in the pontiac threads, but the term "ricer" i guess came from honda civics or something. The smell of burnt oil made the term "rice burner" what it is. Just because a car has a wing and big mufflers don't mean its a "ricer" Actually the mufflers you guys call big are about the same as a cherry bomb, but these just have tips on them. So really the mufflers should have nothing to do with it. I used to make fun of what i thought were ricers, then i realized that name was pointless and putting ground effects and wings on cars made them look pretty cool and shouldn't be made fun of just because of the muffler.

I hope this don't come up again in the pontiac forms ever again.....it's pointless really..... Thread SHOULD be CLOSED.

NOS? now that is what a "ricer" would say.....NOS?!?!?!? You mean, Nitrous Oxide? Thats better....Supercar_Man, are you a ricer? :icon16:
Thing is, nobody will mess with you if you have "NOS" or Nitrous Oxide.
Even if you have a NOS fuel treatment bottle in display, you won't get messed with. :iceslolan
Huge Speakers? thats getting off the topic there...What do you call huge? 10, 12, 15inch SUBS you mean? Alot of people have them. Rice has nothing to do with Subs.....Again ROLLEYES->

Japanese cars. All of them. The people eat a lot of rice so their cars must use it as fuel.

to be a ricer....id say a few key ideals of a ricer are....a 4 cyl 2.0 and under...larger than 16 inch wheels...bumblebee exaust...euro tail lamps...and at least 2 lbs of..."go fast" stickers...and ground lights...thats a ricer to me...anybody care to argue with that:thefinger

Although most of the cars that fall into this catagory are of Asian origin,
Each year there are more domestic & European models on the scene, so
calling them all "Ricers" is not really accurate anymore.

Here in the NYC area, I've been hearing them referred to as "Tuners".

Tuner is just the politically correct term. I don't think that nitrous is rice. There's a LOT of fast domestic cars in Albuquerque that's on the bottle. Although I feel that turbos and superchargers are the better methods for FI, you shouldn't blow of nitrous.

Hey guys, I'm new here and actually don't own a Pontiac but in the process of looking to buy a Ventura or a Nova. Just want to learn everything about these cars so I can make the right choice. :bigthumb:

I personally hate the term "ricer" (I do like "tuner" much better). If you're going to group these modifieds together, I don't think 2.0L should be a limiting factory. Chevrolet Cavaliers/Pontiac Sunbirds are offered with 2.2L, 2.3L, and 2.4L engines...and could easily fall into this category. I don't see why certain modified Mustangs and Camaros (among many other cars) can't fall into this category.

another ricer for me is a 280 to 325 hp car being out ran by a car with maybe 230 hp to the front wheels. oh its a blown v8 5.0 to 5.4 with 310 hp.......... try a turbocharged 2.0 4 banger ok maybe even turbo charged 2.4 litre 4 out running that blown v8. thats rice to me.

although i strongly believe that the driver is far more important then the equipment. example. put colin macare in my grand am and have him rally it put me in his focus and i rally that. im confident that the first runs will go to him easy. but after i start learning.......

It's supposed to be. Unfortunatley, sarcasim is difficult to type. Truthfully, rice is all about the owner/driver. It's those guys that put ground effects, a huge spoiler, and a bumble bee exhaust on their car and think that their car is special.

anything with a bunch of stickers, a huge wing, annoying exhaust can, ugly paint jobs (lime green, bright yellow, UGHHH). also, it's stupid to see all that crap added on when they have a gutted interior, it's kinda like an oxy-moron. thats pretty much rice to me. as far as domestics go, if they meet the criteria then they can become "riced out domestics" and also any V8 equipped car can be riced out too. ever see a mustang with a GT-R emblem also from a skyline on the back of it??? i have, and that my friends is rice

I think that rice is an additude and not a type or brand of car. I think that if you come with the additude that your car is better just because it's your's thats rice. if you do nothing performance-wise to your car and instantly it's way faster or better performing than it was stock thats rice. if you like big exhaust tips, wings, ground fx thats wonderful. BUT once you get the additude that your car is now some super fast, great handling, highly tunned road rocket your a ricer. I don't care ifthe car is a chevette, a civic, or a ferrari if your car is stock it's stock. turbo's, supercharging, headers, and hard work make a faster car not paint sticker and a bad additude. if you think they make your car LOOK better thats great but if you think they make it a faster, etc. car you are wrong that is rice.

the original term "ricer" came from rice burner which was a term to describe an "eastern" (china jap.) drag car because they ran on alcohol that was refined from their commonly grown crop of rice. if you were to compare this to america, we refine most of our alcohol from corn or potatos. so american drag car would be called "corn-ers"

i agree that alot of european cars are also labeled ricers, but in my opinion, the "ricer is not only defined by the many, many, accesories that are added to the car that do not increase horsepower, but is mostly defined by the "pissed-off bumblebee" sounding exhaust.

no disrespect to the "sport compact" car owner. they do have much better hp/weight ratio than my 3600 lb pontiac muscle beast.

I'd say rice is a combo of look & sound. The first thing about a ricer is you hear them from forever away, it's those coffie can mufflers. Then you ad the paint, body kits, wings, and bling. rice rice baby.
