stereo shutting off

Hello. I have a 1999 Olds Alero and my question is....has anyone ever experienced the radio just shutting off for no apparent reason? It's the stock radio, so it has not been messed with. For whatever reason, when I'm listening to the radio, especially if I turn up the volume it will just shut off! Sometimes it comes back on sometimes it doesn't until the car is shut off and started again later. It's driving me insane...just wondering if anyone has ever come across this problem before and if possible what to do to fix it...thanks!

Sounds like you have a bad ground behind the radio somewhere... Pull the radio, and run a wire from the ground strap to a known good ground and see if that fixes it...
