Question thinking of buying a 95, but...

um yea well i was looking into buying a 1995 Ford Probe 2door hatchback than as i looked more and more on sites, i found that alot of people were complaining about the Probes having alot of transmission problems and thats why Ford stopped making Probes... so i was just wondering what exactly type of problems do the Probe's transmission have and if i got a Probe would it be easy to fix and somewhat in-expensive for a 17 yr old, like myself? or is it a bunch of things that would cost me a ton of money, and be cheapper to just buy a new/newer engine and put in it? or not get a Probe, at all?

Thanks for your time and any advice/info you can provide.

I would not recommend buying a probe at your age if u don't have money had one when i was 17 tranny went had to pay 1400 for a new one and still never ran right after that until crashing it... plus the trunks leak and there are other problems...they have just some of reason why they stopped making them.

Probe Gt's arent bad cars, my car has the same Kl series v6 engine. The Automatic transmissions can suck, better to get a manual gt. You can always upgrade the clutch and flywheel. I got my 626 when I was 17, im now 18 and have some fun mods on it

Only Probes automatic transmissions have problems... buy a 93-97 GT with a 5 speed and you will be quite pleased with it's handling, acceleration, and top speed. Very nice bang for the buck

Yes, people are correct about only the autos having problems. It's not only on the Probe though, it's any Ford/Mazda with the CD4E and the 4EAT transmission.

I have had my Probe for 5 years, it's never seen a shop, never left me stranded, and has only had 1 problem due to an online parts store sending me the wrong rotor, I needed the small rotor and they sent me the large, it fit, the cap fit, but when it started it destroyed the distributor. I rebuilt a Jspec KLZE and put it in last year, only because i wanted more power. The car has 204K on it, and runs fine.

The best 2 cars I have ever owned are an '89 Probe LX, and my '95 Probe GT.

Ford quit making the Porbe due to poor sales.
