Stealth SI?

I bought the following car from a Mercedes dealer about a month ago.

2000 Honda Civic badged as Si on rear
37,000 miles
B16A2 with VIN that matches body
SI instrument cluster
5 speed manual
rear & front disc brakes
no "DOHC VTEC" decals on sides of car
SI front & rear fenders with SI side skirts
tall Si rear Spoiler
VIN came up as SI on Carfax, no accidents, one owner

Yesterday I decided to removed the rear Si badge as it was the soft plastic one and it was partially lifting. After I removed it, underneath was the glue remnants from an "EX" badge. What gives?

My guess was that it was badged incorrectly at the factory and changed at the original Honda dealer. Any other explanations.

Ya. I thought maybe it was in an accident. Fixed with an EX quarter panel and stuck the SI badge where the EX badge was. But.. the paint job is flawless and they would have sanded and painted where the EX badge was if the panel was replaced. I dunno.

What's the 4-5-6 digits in the VIN?

eskoobie
06-19-2003, 02:20 PM
4-5-6 on the VIN are EM1

thx. I kinda like it the way it is. Keeps the thieves guessing. Now with no badge at all, nobody knows what it is!

you do have to remember that its had a previous owner. it's possible the person who owned the car before you wanted people to think it was just an EX. then when they wanted to sell it, they put back on an Si badge. ive never seen the real Si emblems up close but i know the SiR ones at auto zone are cheap plastic. maybe they cut and used one of those the second time?

maybe, but what about no side decals. I sure they didn't remove them. The Paint is flawless.

the 5th gen civics had stickers on the back saying civic and model, the 6th gens and up have emblems instead.

They can be removed easily. My friend took every badge off his Si and put some webs on there too. Sleepers..........:bigthumb: As far as that EX thing...............:dunno:

Maybe the car came from canada and the guy swapped a b16a2 into it ... its probably an EX .. cause in canada the EX is SI and the SI is SIR

The other thing it may be is the car was in an accident and they used parts from an EX to replace it.

eskoobie
06-19-2003, 10:18 PM
NAH. I don't think its Canadian. VIN is 1HGEM115XYL......
If it was in an accident wouldn't they have sanded and painted the rear quarter panel and removed the EX glue in the process?. EX's don't have rear discs. They would have had to make too many mods to turn an EX into a perfect SI. Besides VIN engine # matches the Body VIN. Who knows. It is weird.

i was thinking about this post the other day when I was on the strip and I saw a Blue Si (99-00) that had the Si emblem, DOHC vtec sticker on the side of the car, big rice wing, lowered, rims, etc. but the strange thing about it was that it had 96-98 taillights. My friends and I could not figure this out... did he have the car painted that color and throw a couple stickers on? Its just a little wierd...

I've been thinking about this post. That is very weird. Maybe they did try to make it a sleeper, but then why would the EX logo be under the SI logo that was in the wrong spot? You said car wasn't in a wreck, but maybe it was stolen by a theft ring, stripped, then they bought it off the block and put the parts back in it. Maybe they used an EX body panel there, or re-badged it wrong. This is a really far out there thought, probably way off base. Strange though. Does the Vin match in all 3 locations? Engine Block, Dash, and engraved into the back of the engine bay? I am at a loss on this one. It's certainly a strange Si

New Info! Car was repainted, dealer said so. That's why the paint is perfect (Metallic black beautiful). That explains no DOHC VTEC on the side panels. My guess is rear end damage, not reported on Carfax. My guess is that the repair/paint shop not knowing the model put an EX badge over the new paint job. Owner probably saw it and said it was an SI. EX badge replaced with SI badge in wrong place for SI.

Waddya think? That's my explanation. BTW only paid $10,500 for it.

That seems to make sense. I know of several occasions where car fax didn't report damage to a car. I used to work with a guy who bought an infiniti q45, i think it was, from a car dealership. He ran carfax and everything, they didn't report/catch that the car had some major interior flood damage (which was hidden by the dealership). I know of another case where carfax showed the car as clean. Once the car was bought and he'd owned it for awhile, he ordered a CLUE report (like insurance companies use) to check his claims history, etc. ANyways, It also showed his hir cars claim history. It had been in several wrecked. It had one $1500 and one $3000 or $3500 collison claim. Not huge, but still, it had collison claims against it, but nothing on carfax.

carfax claims if its not on there you can get up to like a 10k refund for your car.

A little off topic but i hate it when peole put BS badges on their cars. If you have the motor thats one thing but way be making people think your crap D15 is a B16A2? Same with peole putting Type R's on a LS. None of these even come close to one i saw...How about a Mustang GT-R?? According to the owner it's a special racing edition of the mustang. I know there's stang Gt's, Cobra R's, but the badge was from a skyline.

chris26969

the stealth mode only takes you so far. Around here theres no such thing as racing. So people pretty much do up the Exausts on civcs , and lowering. (not a singler person had a body kit on a civic...go figure). But as for looks thats waht everyone does around here. O well.

motorex17, yeah i saw that mustang GT-R clip also on that DVD. That was funny shit man lol. Owner said he had a rotary engine turbo lol, but couldnt name the intercooler he had on it. oh man...

I saw a mustang like that around here the other day, since you are from oregon, did you see that in pdx?...When I saw it, I pointed it out to my girlfriend and laughed my ass off. It was a skyline badge for sure. I saw it near John's Landing on Macadm (HWY 43).

MattYoung, ya it was from that dvd where i saw it. I wouldn't ever rent it again, but there were some pretty good burnouts and insane truck passes on there. I bet some of those cops got really pissed off.

Some of the worst i've seen were a Jeep Cherokee with a GT-R badge on the rear hatch, a Focus that had VTEC decals on both doors, and a Sentra with VTEC and Type-R decals. Sad. All i could do was laugh.

eckoman_pdx

Alright, I no this thread is a little old, but you think that Jeep and Focus are bad, check this out. At this Hagen's in Taulitian ever night, this dude parks there with his car, a mercury wagon, the kind that looks like the Ford Taruas Wagon. On it he has decals all over the sides, doors, windows. The Decals? Well, the say "Honda," "Acura," DOHC VTEC 1.8," "AEM," "Greddy." And thats just the ones that come to my mind. I mean, Honda, Acura, and DOHC VTEC 1.8 on a Mecury Wagon? The guy must be high as a kite, either that or it's a joke gone bad. Maybe I'll snap a pic of it and post it if I ever remember, lol. It's the saddest thing I've ever seen. I mean, he has "powered by Acura" on a stock Mecury.

I was down in St. Louis a couple years ago and saw this shitty Beretta with tinted windows and the back window was just one huge Mustang sticker. I pointed and laughed my ass off, then I stopped pointing and just laughed b/c I didn't want to get shot.

mines kinda stealth, as in no badges, or dohc vtec stickers, but as soon as i get my rim fixed the only thing that will make it identifiable is the front lip. as for yours, my guess is that the previous owner wanted people to think he had an ex so he could have an advantage.

lol the other day i had some kid in an lx fourdoor ask me if mine was an ex after i put like 5 carlengths on him

I don't know, there are some seriously retarded people out there. The guy in the Merc wagon may just tell people he's got a modded Honda engine under the hood  Here in Chicago, there are so many half-assed rice mobiles and people who are just trying to be "with it", it's ridiculous.

eckoman_pdx
07-25-2003, 02:51 AM
Nah, thats I'm pretty sure thats the mecury wagon guys only car. I have a buddy that lives around there. And the two guys that drive it? They make the car look cool. I mean, it seriously funny shit. They like sit in it all the time, so they are usually around it, as a result, comments and laughin are kept to once we are away from it. There's a lotta that crap around there...some car that isn't even close turning to be "cool", like the "DOHC VTEC" Mecury, or the "GT-R" Mustang I saw, lol. I mean, you just gotta see this thing to beilive it, its funny shit. But like I said, see the guy how drives it, and you kinda understand, lol.

thats so stupid. i'd only put a GTR badge on my car if i had that motor under my hood. makes sense though cuz it would be a GTR motor in the car. in fact, i'd add to the badge so that it said "GTR Motor". but thats if i had a 240SX. instead i drive a stock Civic LX and there won't be any decals or badges of any sort put on my car. you couldnt even pay me to do that.

i think the worst ive seen is a white beretta with big beretta type r stickers diagonally across the hood and trunk. also, there was the ford ranger with 3 si badges :biggrin2:

eckoman_pdx

A Ford Ranger with 3 Si badges? One is bad enough but 3? Oh man, thats retarded as hell. We should introduce him to the "mustang GT-R" and Mecury "DOHC-VTEC" wagon guys. I bet they'd all get along.
