how adjust koni rears?

For those of yoots with koni struts, is maximum tightness too tight? Mine are currently on the softest setting. I'm gonna get them tightened soon. Should I just tighten them all the way? I want a firm ride. Will the tightest setting make me more vulnerable to potholes here in the NE?

you have to remove the entire shock from the car,
PUSH the piston rod all the way down, and turn it clockwise until full stop, then turn back 1/2 turn. that should be stiffest setting.
