Are the 99Si's Vtec?

I live in Bc, Canada and own the 00 Civic SiR... and so in the states it would be a Civic Coupe EX im pretty sure.. but anywayz as the topic states that are the 1999 Si's (EX in US) Vtec? I popped open the hood on ma buddies Si and the covers dosent say vtec....I maybe should of got the engine serial code but didn't.

And anways one night just to play around he raced me off a stoplight....As soon as the light turned green he kept up with me to about 40 k and then my vtec got going in first and soon as i hit second i was gone and by the end of third i smoked him by like 5 car lengths...is this right? That's also why im thinking these Si's arent vtec ... but i still believe they are... can somebody clarify this?

Well if you have the SiR and he has the Si then of you should beat him. You have a B16A and he has a D16Y8. A difference of 33hp. He does have VTEC though.

1999-2000 Honda Civic SiR (Canada) is the US 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si (DOHC VTEC)

1999-2000 Honda Civic Si (Canada) is the US 1999-2000 Honda Civic Ex (SOHC VTEC).

Its just that I thought the cover would say vtec on it. Cause another friend has the 93 Si Coupe and when ya pop the hood it says vtec on it.
So the Newer Si's just dont say it on the cover....but they are vtec then.
Its just that...well.. I smoked him pretty bad cause when we went at it, the results outcome would be normal for a stock dx hatch, but for an si coupe i just thought they at least can keep up till 100 or so... after that i kinda figure i'd pull away.. but to quick as to pull away from 50 seemed surprising to me..gotta love the b16.

By the way i also bought me a rusted not even driveable 1 gen civic '79. Ugly brown color complete with the wooden steering wheel and "hood scoop" baby.... gonna restore it......it's gonna be sweet. Its gonna make an awesome beater better than the crx in a way...but crx is cool too.

This makes me extra special cause i got 2 civics lol j/k

The only SOHC valve cover that I know for sure has one is the 95 Civic.

I'm no Honda God, but... don't all SIs and SIRs have V-Tec engines since they've been available, no matter where they were purchasable? I drive a 2002 Civic EX with 140 hp atw and I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for modifying the 127 hp ex 1.7 litre V tec in any way. I should post pictures so you all know what I have I suppose, so you know what to work with. I'd just rather get help from Honda owners who street race like me then ask someone whos going to tell me to sell it and buy something else (which is sad coming from them, Saturn drivers usually). Alright, we'll she has a nice interior, 17 inch Konig Verdicts in 512 Falken Z rated tires, ground effects all the way around, and a cold air Intake God honestly tested at Vertex to run 13 hp above the block. Pictures...

I do not have hosting for pictures, but I'll find some soon and get those pictures up. Also, can you tell me where to read up on Honda Vtec and pre Vtech engines? Thanx to anyone who helps me out with this.

the 6th/7th gens have VTEC written on the SOHC motors.

the si's also (along w/ the 93's)

ur correct AMB (if ur talking about 6th gen-up).

the SiR is the same as the SI (have a few differences, but they are considered the same level)
