Cool 1999 Tahoe Automatic Transfer Case

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe with the automatic transfer case. I've been noticing the "2 HI" light turning off on occasion. When I press it to turn it back on the light will flash on then off again. To get the light to come back on I have to switch back to "2 HI" from "4 HI" or "AUTO." Other than the light not being on everything seems to be ok. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is it an indication that something could be wrong?

Sounds like you have a bad 4wd switch. If you know how to take your dash area apart it shouldn't be a very expensive fix. The part is about 60 dollars at your GM dealer.

I agree with "1badaz" about the switch panel. But, before you go throwing parts at it, let me ask you this. When you turn the key to "run" do all of the switch lights flash? Next time the "2 HI" light goes off, stop and turn the key off, then turn it to "run" and see if "all" the lights flash? If the "2 HI" doesn't then it's probably the switch panel other wise you need to get it scanned for trouble codes to really pin point a problem in the system..........Steve

Re: Re: Re: 1999 Tahoe Automatic Transfer Case

I have the same thing on my '99 Tahoe. The indicator lights are on, then off, then on again. As detailed elsewhere (in another thread), I also have a problem with what I would describe as missing on a cylinder or two at around 50-60 mph, but the engine checks out fine.

In AWD, I can't do a slow (2-3 mph) tight turn without things sounding like they're about to fall out of the drive train.

I really hate to take it to the dealer and say, "Conduct a fishing expedition, and send me the bill."
