well this kit has been sitting here in front of me for awhile now. Initally it was going to be painted white but after a few 'issues' with the painting (damn cats) I am begining to head in a different direction.

Having seen a magazine article here with an old 240Z sitting beside the 350Z it got me thinking.

Why not paint the new 350Z in the calssic 240Z look. So it will now be . . . .

wait for it . . .

ORANGE

which leaves me again with the decision of what wheels to use :frown:

if you're doing orange, go with black rims. the stock ones in black with maybe OZ lettering on one spoke would be cool.

Which magazine was the Datto in? Orange would be real nice with some BBS Y spokes painted gloss black with a chrome rim

nah I was going for a color more like the car in tonioseven's sig or maybe even a bit darker.

the magazine was New Zealand Classic Car Mag. Issue #147, Vol 13 No 3

That's a bit odd, thanks for letting me know though Camber and Tazdev, I can try look the datto up on the turbo site and if not I might go get the NZ Classic Car Mag. Is it the newest Issue Tazdev? Full article on a 240Z or a 350Z?

well here is the begining.

The colour is from a testors spray can (never used them before, and probably never again) and is called Competition Orange. The spray comes out very thick (not sure if its just the cold temp here at the moment or if it is a typical trait of the tesors spray).

nah I don't like the testors paint. :frown:

is it possible to spray the tamyia sprays over the testors or is it looking like time for another strip?

bah humbug
06-26-2003, 08:36 AM
I don't think there is a problem with spraying over it.

But I wouldn't suggest it. I'd rather strip it.

But I think veyron did like around 13 coats on one of his civics.
First he painted it black then changed his mind but didn't strip it.
I really can't remember if it was veyron, vric or somone here.
You choose, whether you want to strip it or leave it.
But I think it was veyron.

the tamyia paint didn't seem to like being applied over the testors spray so off it comes.

a store in my town sell paint for car.. I just asked Nissan A17 color and he asked me if I wanted actual color, or with a bit more metalic effect.. I took the metalic one and it's really great ! cost me 20$CND (14$US) for a spray can but it worth it.. with 1 can you can make over 3 models so the cost is right..

guess what I screwed up :bloated:

In stripping the crap testors paint off I broke the A pillar. Tried to fix it but with no luck so I decided what the hell CUSTOM time :P

decided the easiest fix would be to shorten the height of the windscreen to the end of the side mirrors and chop the top off. Also decided to cut out the drivers side glass, left the passenger side glass in to hold it all together.

opinions welcome.

They have made it. Its the roadster, but it doesn't have that rear window.

willimo
08-14-2003, 09:31 PM
If you're going to shorten the windscreen, you ought to shorten the rear window and deck to match. That's my opinion, at least, but I really like it. Short windscreens are trick.

tazdev
08-14-2003, 09:39 PM
think I'll leave the rear as it is, we'll see what it looks like with a coat of paint or 4

well after serious consideration I deemed orange to be a color not worthy to sit on this car so am painting it in Alclad II Prismatic jade paint.

here it is with its black base

now seeing the color on the body the interior color just doesen't seem right so the centre inserts in the seats are getting a light spray of prismatic paint so as to better match the exterior.

more pics to come when paint is dry

Nice color. How are those Alclad Prismatic paints? I've been thinking of picking up all four types for some upcoming projects. Are they worth the nearly $10 a bottle for them? From your pictures, the Z looks real nice. How is it in person?

tazdev
08-17-2003, 03:54 AM
looks better in person and after the clear coat even better again, just waiting for the clear to dry now.

So yeah I'd say they are worth it

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm going to pick some up. Probably try the Alclad Sapphire first.
