94 cavalier keeps burning up fuel pumps

I bought a 94 cavlaier a couple of years ago, when we first got it the fuel pump went out, so the dealership changed it, nine months later it did it again, the pump itself was under warranty so we changed it again. Well over the last couple of weeks, it started doing the same thing again. It would start and drive ok, after driving for a little bit you shut it off, the car wouldn't start back up, if it did it wouldn't be getting enough gas to go and would die. If I run a hot wire from the battery to the pump connector to the rear of the fuel tank, I could sit there and jog the fuel pump to start, by jog i mean i could touch the battery end to the battery it wouldn't start, take it off, touch it again it wouldn't start, touch it again it would start. So odviously the pump was bad. But three pumps in a row, even i can see something else is causing these pumps to go bad. I'm thinking pressure regulator (if there is such a thing on the cavalier) my thought is that the pump is burning itself out, by contstantly staying under pressure. Does anyone know if such athing exists on the 94 2.2 liter cavalier? what am i looking for? anyone else got any suggestions on this?

some things u can try:

a different fuel filter - if it's clogged or restricted somehow the lack of fuel would burn the pump because its trying to pull fuel it cant get

perhaps it is a fuel line problem

do you have EFI or mechanical fuel injection? efi- i dont freakin know but if it's mechanical, you may have something sticking somewhere...

maybe try a stronger/bigger/better pump or a different brand fuel pump if you can...

it may be a wiring problem, the wires to the pump may be the wrong size and your frying the brushes in the motor

I hope this helps
