Advanced or Retard Rotation

I have what appears to be a simple problem, but just cant seem to arrive at an answer.
My problem is this: On a Chevy 350 facing the front of the block.

If the engine were at tdc and the cam gear was rotated clockwise (only the cam is rotated. The crank will remain at tdc) would I be advancing the timing or retarding it??
