My family is looking at buying a used 92 Trooper. Any comments (whether personal experience or a friend's) would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want my family to buy another lemon

Awsome Wagons!!!

I know a few people who own them, and absolutly love them.
Izuzu is a world leader in Desiel technology, so if you can, get a Turbo desiel. Otherwise the V6 petrol is surprisingly fast, but thirsty.

They have great off road performance, heaps of towing power, and they are nice to drive.

I'd say a Montero is a better bet, however if you can get a Lotus tuned Trooper then GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!
