I know what it stands for, what is it? At the crank or the wheels?

The power available at the flywheel.
Engine power is often quoted in PS.
* 1PS=0.9863bhp.

Thanks brendonm,

So power at the crank. Cool :)

I thought flywheel and engine power was the same???? PS is just what japan uses for measuring power...like they use torr (mmHg) for measuring boost. Ps can be used for measuring both power of the engine and at the wheels, like Kw at the wheels and Kw at the engine/flywheel?????

HP = Horse Power. Horse power is defined as torque (in ft.lbs) multiplied by RPMs divided by 5252. Do a search on the 'net for an explanation about Watt and horses and why it's called what it is.

BHP = Brake Horse Power. Horse Power that is measured from the crankshaft via an engine brake (dyno). This implies that the motor is running and thus accounts for accessories.

PS = Pferdestärke. Basic translation from German is Horse Power. It is virtually the same as HP, but multiplied by 1.01 (think Metric HP).

kW = Kilowatt. True metric representation of power. HP divided by 1.341 will yield kW output.

Then there are variations of SAE, etc, all that account for rotating assembly, inertial, accessories, blah blah.

Remember that they have smaller horses in the US as well, so whatever HP figures they give, you need to factor in the smaller horse (or bullshit, whatever you prefer) factor to get a real indication... ;)

Cheers Mario. I know it was a silly question, but I wasn't 100% sure of it, hence why I asked.
Hows the car going at the mo??? Still churning out shitloads of power???
