1980 F100 do i have a 302 or a 351ADM14 05-22-2003, 06:29 PM I have an 1980 F100 The engine is not origional but i was told it was a 302 the other week I changed radiator hoses and the lower hose for the 302 didnt fit however when i tried a hose made for a 351 it fit like a glove. how can i look at the engine and tell what it is? Thanks Aaron TheDirtyLittleMan 05-27-2003, 11:16 PM there should be alittle sticker on the left valve cover. if that dont work search your casting numbers. gargoyle 11-16-2003, 11:06 PM Simple, a 302 tapper pans/valve cover is tall and squared shaped with 8 bolts holding them on. The 302 also has an allum. block by the harmalic ballencer located about where the manual fuel pump would go. 302 spark-plug's go in the block at a slant, slanting towards the firewall. On a 351 modified the tapper pans/valve cover's are shorter and rounded with only 5 bolts to hold them on, does not have the alumi block by the manual fuel pump and the spark-plugs go straight in/downwards. Unless it's a winsor, the wisor plugs go in at a slant as well but it doesn't have the alumi shame block either. The 351 clevlin the valve covers are tall and rounded with 6 bolts to hold them on. gargoyle 11-16-2003, 11:39 PM I'm sorry I messed up. 351M has 7 valve cover bolts. The 351C has 5 valve cover bolts. And the 351W 6 valve cover bolts. The 302 valve cover's are squared and taller and should have 8 bolts. adtjcliff 03-26-2005, 12:48 PM My 351 Cleveland has 8 Valve Cover bolts, and I forget how many a 302 has, but I know it 8 ! Dalamar28586 02-21-2008, 10:37 PM in a 351 the distributor is in the back by the firewall and and a 302 its in the front vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
