Convertible top replacement

Hi… I am going to replace the factory top on my 1971 MGB (not to bad 33 years on it) for the first time. I do all of my own work but never put on at top. Can anyone tell me any tricks or secrets to putting a convertible top on?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Convertible top replacement

Larry:
i replaced my top 20 years ago, and am installing another new one tomorrow (11/16/03). I searched this forum for tips, because I remember it was difficult, but did a good job the first time. I bought my new top from Moss, but was surprised to find no instructions or tips. I wonder how you made out with your project -- have you any tips or can you guide me to a site with install instructions? thanks.

Hi Mike,

Well I did not find out very much info on doing the top. I was told to do it on a warm day. I also did find some web pages that had general top info. So how did mine come out?? Well it is still in the box. I only had my car on the road for a month and ran topless all the time!!

I do plan to have it out more next summer so please tell me how it goes for you.

Re: Convertible top replacement

leave the top in the sun on a warm day. Heating the material will make it easier to stretch. When sliding the rods through the top, wrap the ends in duct tape to prevent them from catching and tearing the fabric.
