R34 Skyline with SAS Bodykit and R32 engine transplant process

Here goes, not sure if i'm upto such a build but what the hell, i'll give it a go.

I definetely don't know why Tamiya (such a great company) don't put real motor in a kit like the R-34 and the do so in a kit like the Morris Mini. Strange isn't it ? They do such great engines... Mercedes CLK GT1, Porsche GT1, Ferrari Modena or Enzo...

Well, nice kit by the SAS group anyway, they do a cool S2000 kit too ans I definetely want to see the Vspec project at the end of the processus.

A bit more work done in the engine bay, shaping etc...

at first, i couldnt tell much about the engine bay, but then i looked at the before pics and man, u did a good job:cool: i too will be watching this thread closely:smoka:

This scratch building thing doesn't half take time :(

This one is going to be great...i can tell already. BTW , what are you using to scratchbuild those parts? They all look super good. I like the realism of that intakebox, and i love the oil cooler. Keep us updated.

Scratch Built Strut Brace completed, just need a bit more sanding then a coat of Polished Aluminium Alcad II Paint

Are you converting it to a single fatty-fat turbo? :eek:

Decided on rims yet? how big do you think you'll go? this is looking all too difficult for someone like me to handle. I've got to hand it to you, this is top notch work so far with all these scratchbuilt items everywhere. :eek: stunning stuff.

I had a re-think tonight and decided to change the Single Turbo pipe
arrangement so I can get the pipe to the intercooler in and shown, but
maybe the extractors will be hidden if I do that, who knows, maybe i'm getting too fussy now ?

On a slightly different note, the engine and components in the Aoshima one that comes in the HKS Kansai kit (see photo)
are a hell of a lot nicer than the Tamiya R32 kit I wishing I used that for the transplant now, maybe on the next one :)

No clear coats at all, just 2 coats of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer and 8 coats of Tamiya TS14 (Black), rubbed back with wet and dry between each coat then used Tamiya Compound and then waxed.

1st off - :eek: @ the car so far!!!

A couple of Q's:
8 coats of paint - all wet coats (apart from the 1st few coats)? Or did you spray light coats through out?
Sanding in between each coat - how long did you wait before sanding and what grit of sandpaper did you use? And again how long after sanding did you spray the next coat?

Test fitting of the engine and other engine bay parts, strut brace etc are not glued just placed for now. Not sure I'm that happy with it all, but not too bad for a 1st attempt.
I know the Radiator is not fitted, but I needed space to check the fit.
What do you all think?

What do I think? I think that you need to give your self a lot more credit for that bad ass car you are making.

By the way, If your not totaly happy with it then whats wrong?

It's beautiful work. If I had to guess what he's not happy with it would be the engine bay itself. Right now it's pretty bare, the engine and all is awesome, but there are a lot of other pieces/parts that comprise an engine bay that are missing right now. Things like the brake booster/master cylinder, abs controller, misc wires and other boxes would help fill it in and give it a more realistic look.

Wonderful work here buddie! I need some advice from you though, do you plan on making a hinge for your hood? I can't quite fiqure it out for my Civintegra...........

The engine bay is perfect. I don't see how you are unhappy with it.

as I am building the same engine but in a silvia, I was wondering where your second turbo pipe (the lower one not going into the airbox) is running to on both sides. what are you referencing for the build? I am looking to detail the turbo side of my RB26 engine but am unsure exactly how I want to execute that. any suggestions you may have would be appreciated as yours is coming out really nice

The car is running one large turbo instead of twins.
As for ref material I have loads of mags as well as some photos I took
at a show which can be found in thisThread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104635)

Just been working on the brake lines tonight so pics tomorrow when I get daylight. Boy this is fiddly work all twezzers etc :mad:
