Which boost controller to get?

Ok so I am going to get a boost controller before spring, and I have been looking through all of the different kinds that are available and I have no idea which kind is best.. I want a manual controller, because I dont have the money to spend for an electronic one, but my question is, for those of you who have had experience with them in the past, what kind/brand is the best in your opinion? .. I have been looking at boostvalve.com, as I have seen some people have good things to say about their controllers; they use the ball and spring, which they say is best, and now I've just come across a site: gofastbits.com, and their controllers use the bleeder method, which of course they say is better.. So just wondering what some of you guys have used and your opinions on them.. Thanks very much.

Re: Which boost controller to get?

I have the Joe P MBC Pro-Z, http://www.boostcontroller.com/index.php?category=4
It is a bit pricey but I like the way it looks and integrates into the engine bay rather well.
This is how I have it installed, http://www.3si.org/forum/5151712-post6.html
I removed the stock solenoid and made a bracket for it and the sensor for the boost gauge.
It use to come in different colors, the 1 I have is powder coated satin black.

Re: Which boost controller to get?

That's actually the one I am thinking about getting, it seems to be made the best and doesn't just look like some brass plumbing fittings screwed together.. Ever had any problems with it since installing? Like boost changing or anything like that... Also, how hard was the installation.. Just a quick swap with the stock solenoid, or was there a bunch of vacuum lines to run and such?

Thanks

Re: Which boost controller to get?

i haven't noticed any changes in the boost setting nor any spiking.
1 of the primary reasons i bought this 1 is because i could install it and doesn't look out of place.
i constructed the bracket myself but they do offer a bracket for sale if it fits your needs.
installation was pretty straight forward.
you do have to swap a few lines but nothing major.
there is a diagram floating around for the vacuum line routing for installing a mbc.
i don't have it handy, but you can probably find it here or on 3si.
there are quite a few members here that can tell you how it is hooked up.

Re: Which boost controller to get?

I've had at least 5 different brands of boost controllers over the years, and I'd strongly recommend a Hallman. Rock solid boost, and you can get the cockpit adjustable variant as well.
