Thumbs down Ignition/Passlock problems, 2000 Alero

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero which had an ignition cylinder failure 2-3 months ago after approx 8 months of sitting in my driveway. To make a long story short, I drilled out much of the cylinder so as to be able to turn it with a screwdriver and be able to get to and from work for 2-3 weeks before I could afford a new cylinder, but find out today after getting it reinsured/registered that Passlock 2 has put a severe damper on this.

Is there any possible way to get around this or do I gotta go around begging family/friends for cash to get a new ignition cylinder?

Re: Ignition/Passlock problems, 2000 Alero

I see that I got a thumbs down and assume it means whoever gave that to my post believes I'm trying to bypass the protection for illegal reasons. I've had this car for nearly 2 years now, and have driven it less than half the time I've had it due to being laid off. I simply can't afford a new cylinder at the moment or I'd get one.

I asked my dad a few weeks ago to pick the lock so I could remove the cylinder and replace it with a new one after it failed the first time I started then eventually turned it off after 8 months, leaving me unable to even turn the key. 4 hours later, after much minigrinder/drill noise, I go out and saw a huge hole where the cylinder was.

If there's really no possible way to bypass passlock, which from everything I've read about it is the biggest POS ever, I'll just resort to trying to borrow money for a new cylinder, but I'd rather not go that route.

I think the thumbs down is to draw attention to this thread (as in, wow this is bad)not that you are doing anything illegal.

is probably what you are looking for to bypass passlock. I've done it, it works great and is not hard at all.

Thumbs down Re: Ignition/Passlock problems, 2000 Alero

Typed this message 4 times now and everytime my javascript blocker screws it all up and causes the site to think I didn't type anything, here goes one last shot:

Mostly wondering if I could perform the passlock bypass with some resistors totaling up within the passlock2 resistance range that it will recognize and then perform a key relearn to set it to that resistance. First 4 times were better written but I'm already pissed about the car and now my posts getting deleted

I'm not sure that will work. The BCM learns one of the resistance ranges the first time a key is inserted, and it is not reprogrammable. I am pretty sure you will need to come within about 50 ohms of the original range. You can gang up resistors to get the right range if needed, though.
