Cloudy coolant when hot, and over heating
I just recently replaced my lifters and rods, so that obviously meant intake manifold gasket. While I was at it, I replaced the radiator, upper hose, cap, and thermostat. Now I'm having a heating problem and cloudy while hot coolant problem. Oil level and consistency is fine and no smoke from exhaust. I'm heating up to 210 and losing coolant. Could a bad seal around the exhaust ports be causing this? Should I tighten the bolts to the intake?

Re: Cloudy coolant when hot, and over heating
Two things I've seen similiar....
1. mixing coolents can cause this 'milky' look. But, you did replace the radiator... was it new or used? Maybe if used it had some coolant still in it. 2. Hate to say, but exhaust in the coolant caused this too. That's a blown head gasket. I hope that's not your case. As for overheating and loosing fluid.... when it overheats, it probably loses fluid from the resevior. There's an over flow on these tanks. Have you tried taking the thermostat out and running it. Could be locking closed, even though this is uncommon. Have you checked the fluid is cirulating? (Water Pump) The over heat may have caused the head gasket to rupture... happens on older vehicles. G/L. |

Re: Cloudy coolant when hot, and over heating
Probably not a head gasket as rayhalks72 suggests, exhaust won't cloudy the coolant but will blow it out of the radiator into the overflow container
go back to your intake manifold and re torque it following the torque pattern and specs in the manual. Also though not required on these engines you might want to use new intake manifold bolts. On my Pontiac the gasket kit came with new bolts. |
