Door locks constantly lock/unlock when driving

I have a problem with my 1996 Windom ES300

When I drive everytime I go over a bump, the central locking clicks the doors locked and then unlocked again. The door open light is lit red on the dash board.

Also when I leave the vehicle and close all the doors the red door open light remains on. I think the sensor button inside the drivers door is not being pressed in sufficiently and so it thinks the doors are open.

This is annoying when driving but recently my battery has started running down, presumably because this red light stays on all night, meaning the battery is flat in the morning.

Does anybody have any idea how I can either fix the problem or maybe just disconnet the sensor or the light etc?

Re: Door locks constantly lock/unlock when driving

The problem is likely the wiring harness running to the driver's side door. The wires inside it have fatigued over time and many thousands of door opening/closings, causing them to cross-circuit. Either try to find a newer harness (new ones are likely impossible to find or very expensive) and inspect underneath the rubber boot for wire fatigue, or repair the broken wires in your current harness.

If you decide to repair, then make sure the repair connections are away from the area where the bending occurs and use similar gauge wiring to maintain flexibility. Good luck!

Re: Door locks constantly lock/unlock when driving

I have a similar problem with my 1997 ES300 - the auto door locks cycle randomly and there is a short in the 7.5 amp dome circuit. Did you have any success finding a problem in the driver's wiring harness? thanks
