zx2 '98 engine question

Hi,

I'm having trouble with my car. Its timing belt broke while I was driving it. Does anyone know for sure if it's an intereference engine, what procedures are required to get an estimate for the cost to repair it?

Thanks.

Re: zx2 '98 engine question

You did not state what engine it has, but usually the valves don't bend in Escort/ZX2 motors.

Timing belt replacement at a local shop could run around $300.00 and double that at a dealership.

Re: zx2 '98 engine question

The manual says the engine is 2.0L either SOHC or DOHC Zetec.

Either way, a timing belt replacement will run around $300.00 if not a little more.

Re: zx2 '98 engine question

I had one snap while going down the highway, I threw a new belt on and it was fine.

Re: zx2 '98 engine question

Yes, the Zetech engine (The only engine that came with the ZX2) has a free floating upper. A timing belt snap will in no way hurt the engine.
