Transmitter programming per the GM manual:

Important:

Before entering the programming mode, verify the possession of all the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases the other transmitters. You may program up to 4 transmitters

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch

2) Usa a fused jumper (3 amp is sufficient) and connect terminal 8 (back/white wire) to terminal 4 (black wire)

3) Close all the doors

4) Turn ON the ignition switch
the doors will lock

5) Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters for 30 seconds:
lock and unlock

6) After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock

Important:
DO NOT turn OFF the ignition . If the switch is turned OFF the first transmitter becomes inoperative.

7) In order to program extra transmitters repeat Step 5

8)Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the data link connector

9) Turn off ignition

10) Verify functions of all programmed transmitters.

tireburner, u gave me info on programming the 95 Olds 88 a few months ago and it worked great. I recently bought another used car. It is a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina LS that has the keyless entry standard. When I bought the car, the dealer gave me one set of keys and 1 remote fob that was programed and worked on the car. Unfortanetely, the dealer will not provide another remote fob, so im going to buy 1 off of ebay. Now, the dealer was not kind in allowing to programing a remote if i bring one in. I was wondering, can I use the same directions that u gave me for 95 Olds 88 (grounding pin 4 and 8) or is it different for 97 Chevy Lumina LS?

2-Remove rigt rear trim panel

3-Taped to a harness near the antenna mast (sorry that's the description the book gives) is a single pin plug going no where. Wire color in that plug is probably black/white.

4-Ground that wire. The door locks will respond by locking, then unlocking

5-Press and hold Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds

6-The doors will lock then unlock indicating the system has learned that transmitter

7-Repeat step 5 for all remaining transmitters

8-Remove ground from the program jumper

9-Verify proper remote functions.

The keyless reciever appears to be mounted to the right side of the right rear speaker in the trunk seperation panel. If you must go there because you can't find the program jumper where previously described, the program wire is in pin L. It is a black/white wire at the keyless reciever.

That should get you through this!!

I will do my best. There is a GM dealer that only calls occasionally, but I try and stockpile a list of cars I don't have and ask him to get the info for them, so be patient!

Reply:

If having the memory systems activate when using the factory remotes, you must have the remotes programmed by GM using the TECH 2 programmer. If you are not concerned with the remotes activating the memory systems, the following programming will work.

1- Turn off ignition

2-Use a 3amp fused wire and jump pin #8 to pin # 4 at the diagnostic connector located under the dr ivers side of the dash. Pin # 4 is solid black wire at the connector and Pin # 8 is also solid black (according to my diagrams)

3- Close all the doors

4-Turn ON the ignition

5-Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK on one transmitter until the doors lock, then unlock (approx. 30 seconds)

6- repeat step 5 for every transmitter being programmed

7- DO NOT TURN OFF THE IGNITION!!! Remove the fused jumper first, then turn off the ign and verify remote functions.

1- Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn the ignition key ON,OFF,ON,OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.

Can someone tell me how to reprogram a remote to fit my '97 Buick Riviera? Any ideas on where I can get a new remote without paying an arm and a leg? I have seen a bunch of remotes on ebay, but none specific to my car. Are there any other car remotes that are compatible to my car?
