Remote Oil Lines Modification
ok, so back when my girl first bought her 95 Jimmy it had a slight oil leak at the oil lines. About 2 years ago we bought a set of lines from NAPA and replaced them. At that time I said if I have to redo it I want to look into stainless steel braided hose since in my searches it seemed common.
Well here we are a couple years later and they are leaking again. So I looked into the ss braided lines and fittings. We ended up ordering all the fittings and line from ANPlumbing.com, they were very helpful and good prices. what we bought... #165008 -8 Hard Line Tubing Adapter Qty:4 #800108 -8 Swivel-Seal Straight Hose End Qty:2 #304608 -8 45Deg Auto-Fit Hose End Qty:2 #300008 -8 Auto-Flex Hose Qty:2ft. (we ordered 4ft to have extra and be safe, now i have enough for atleast one replacement) Totaling ~$100 whereas the lines from NAPA where ~$60. So we figure for the added ~$40 we are getting something that should hold up a lot better and something that is much easier and cheaper to replace if needed, since the hose ends are re-useable and only the hose would need to be replaced. Anyways, my girl took some pictures along the way to show it looks. It turned out good. Haven't put oil in the car just yet, will probably today or tomorrow and then take it to a DIY car wash and clean up all the leaked oil (as you can see in the pictures). Please excuse some of the blurring pictures as it was late at night and cold out when we were doing this. So we first started by removing the lines from the car. Then we cut off the rubber hose portion of the lines. Just use a hacksaw and cut nice and straight, it's aluminum so it's real easy to cut through. ![]() Next I took a file and removed any burs from the outside and inside of the aluminum lines. Then we attached the hard line fittings to the aluminum lines. ![]() ![]() (Note that the bracket that mounts to the remote oil filter housing, the lines where slightly bent inward which made it impossible to put the bolt in after the fittings were installed so we installed the bolt then installed the fittings. There was enough room to fit a regular socket and extension in there though to tighten it to the housing, just something to keep in mind before you tighten the fittings down.) Then we installed the hard lines into the car. This way I can get an accurate measurement for the ss braided hose. ![]() Next I installed the hose ends onto the hard line fittings to measure the ss hose. I then cut the hose. See the following link on how to cut the hose, it works great! http://www.anplumbing.com/installation.html After cutting the hose I installed the hose ends onto it. See the following link for how to install Auto-Fit and Swivel-Seal hose ends. http://www.anplumbing.com/AUTO_FIT.html After installing the hose ends I installed the first hose. ![]() ![]() Then I did the same for the other hose and installed that one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (As you can see, it does clear the crank pulley by a decent amount.) I think it looks pretty good for my first time working with AN fittings and SS braided hose. Time will tell though how long this will last. But I take peace in the fact that if the hose does leak again I just have to remove the plastic shield, remove the lines, replace the hoses, put them back in the car, bolt the plastic shield back up again.

Re: Remote Oil Lines Modification
About how long did this job take? Also, thanks for the write-up. I'll be doing this to my 95 Blazer as soon as we get some decent weather around here.

Re: Remote Oil Lines Modification
I'm sorry for the late reply, I don't always check in very often.
the time it took... hmmm maybe about 30-45 min to remove the old hoses (had to remember how we got the back section out). Once the lines are out, maybe another 30-45 minutes to cut the hard lines (aluminum so they cut easy) and attach the hard line adapters. Installing the ends was easy enough, took probably about 20 minutes (easier to install than remove). Measuring and cutting the SS hose, installing the hose ends and installation into the car took maybe an hour. I had trouble getting the hose on one of the 45* hose ends, just couldn't get the nut threaded on. Total time about 2 hour moving fast and knowing what you doing, 3 hours if it's your first time or get hung up anywhere. This was my first time working with AN fittings but they aren't bad at all. I also tend to move a bit slower and take my time. Also, as an update... After putting oil in and running the car I noticed oil coming out of the rear section hard line adapters. Due to limited room I just removed the lines real quick, put the fittings in the vise and tightened the fittings some more. I must not have tightened the hard line adapters all the way to create a good seal. After that, installed them back into the car and tried again. This time no leaks. So far after 10 weeks and maybe 2,000 miles, no leaks.

Re: Remote Oil Lines Modification
Becareful that the lines dont rub anywhere and if you live in the salt belt, be prepared to replace the anodized ends in a few years. I need to replace my lines and plan on doing the same thing except im just buying a relocation kit and using the plates instead of the stock junk.

Re: Remote Oil Lines Modification
really? The fittings will corrode from the salt?
The lines aren't rubbing anywhere, I made sure of that when I installed them.

Re: Remote Oil Lines Modification
sorry for the late reply...
but as for an update, I just did some suspension work on the car and had a chance to get a good look at the lines/fittings. Everything is still holding up weel with no signs of corrosion or leaking.
