What The F!

Well I traded in my CBR for a New SV650S. I love the bike so far, my back feels great for the first time in a while. Anyways, I have a K&N filter and M4 slip on installed already, it sounds pretty mean.

At any rate here's the problem. I was out riding with my buddies and everything is going great, I'm killing them in the corners and have enough umph to not get wasted in the straightaways. I like the bike so far. But when get on the highway I switch to 6th to save gas the damn fuel injection light comes on. So I yank the clutch and pull over to the side of the road. With the clutch pulled in the rpms stay high at around 6k rpms. Usually when you pull in the clutch at a stop light or whatever it drops down to idle speed. Also I noted that there wasn't any engine braking during decelleration. This pisses me off so bad that this brand new bike is doing this. Could it have something to do with the pipe? Help me out homies!

Make sure the throttle position sensor or coolant temp switch didn't get unplugged somehow.

Look around the airbox for anything loose or unplugged. It sounds like something simple, just gotta spot it.

Nice looking scoot. I've always liked the naked/semi-naked Jap sport bikes. I agree with Jeff, it sounds like something simply became unplugged, throwing off the bikes air/fuel calculations.

Where does it idle in neutral?

Installing an open filter and a pipe not only makes a bike sound mean, it makes it run lean. Leaning mixture will raise idle speed.

Re: What The F!

isn't there a way to diagnose the FI light? on my bike there is a loose wire that when grounded makes the Fi light blink a code just like a check engine light in a car.

It usually idles around 1k rpms I believe. But when that light comes on it stays at 6k. Which is embarrassing at red lights. I don't understand why this happens in High 5th gear and 6th gear only, kind of strange I think. I'll probably just have to take it to the dealership and pay out the ass, I couldn't find any loose wires or the like. I'm guessing it probably has something to do with the fuel mapping? I kind of wish it was carbuerated (sp?) so I could mess with the air/fuel mixture myself. Damn fuel injection.

Thanks bro. I like it too especially since it's my first bike and who knows if I'll drop it anytime soon in nice squidly fashion. If I do it's just a scrape on the pipe which is much cheaper to replace then a bunch of plastic. I think I'm going to get a little chin spoiler like the SV1000s have, it makes it look a little meaner.
