3.4 L v6 camaro looking to upgrade..
Well, my first step in upgrading my car is complete. I threw on some z28 exaust on there, it definitely sounds way better and improves performance a noticeable amount. I've been looking at the K+N FIPK intake.. http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=57-3010-1
Would i really notice 18hp increase? I mean is it really worth the 200 dollars? After the intake what would be the next cheapest way to get it faster? BTW what site do you guys order your stuff on? |

A lot of parts for the 3.4 can be found at www.ftpp.net
My ... If your going to spend $200 on an intake, then get the SLP cold air intake. It's alot better, though you're not going to see an 18 hp increase, you would probably see somewhere around 10 hp.. and that applies to any intake. Next I would go with headers, and remove the cat/or upgrade it with a hi-flow one.

Cool, i don't see the SLP intake on that site. But i did notice a low temp thermostat. Would this be worth getting? ALong with a Jet stage 2 performance chip?

Re: 3.4 L v6 camaro looking to upgrade..
You can get a 180* thermostat at Advance auto parts for $5, it's made by Stant or something like that, but it works just the same as those name brand's on that site. I wouldn't suggest going with a 160* stat, as you would need tuning to compensate for that. The Jet chip isn't exactly a waste of money, it's just for more heavily modified cars, so you wouldn't see quite the gain you would imagine since you're pretty much running a stock setup. So it's not exactly the best investment at this point for you.
You can find the SLP cold air intake at www.byunspeed.com. Thats where I bought mine from and they're pretty fast and reliable.

I think from reading up on the other forum, that only FastChips does tuning on the 3.4's. And from what I've heard, they don't do any custom tuning, just basic upgrades like adjusting gear ratios and what not.

Re: 3.4 L v6 camaro looking to upgrade..
how fast do you wanna go? with a 3.4 it's gonna be hard to go fast for cheap, unless you run a big nitrous shot. i'd start out with a good flowing exhaust and intake. you'll notice a good difference in performance and it will make it quicker. but right now your maybe making 140whp so your probably running low 16's if not slower. nice flowing exhaust and intake will get you in the 15's i would think. honestly i'd just save any money you would spend on the 3.4 and pick yourself up and lt1. i know a kid back in highschool who converted a 3.4 firebird into a 350 formula with an lt1. well worth it.
