Is probe a good first manual car?

Hey guys,
Just gettin an idea of what I want for my next car which will be a change since I drive automatic. I gets boring and I kinda wanna make my ride a little bit more involved. Is a probe a good first manual car? Im looking to get the GT version and which year is best. I kinda want it to be a nice quick car

-Thanks

Take it for a test drive and see if it is for you.

How good is the talon on insurance? How big of a chunk will it take out of my wallet?

Re: Is probe a good first manual car?

I have owned many, many cars over the last 40 years, most of them standard. I consider the 95 PGT as one of the best handling, best looking of any of them. It has it's quirks. The seating is fairly far forward, which means you have to open the doors a long way to slide in and out, and in tight parking spots it can be a bit difficult. I am 5 ft 9 in and I wish I could have the seat a little farther back, but then the pedals are too far away. It might be good if you are 6 ft or so. The car itself is evry easy as standards go. Lots of torque off the line and very good acceleration all the way up. Gearbox is farily precise, although not at quick as would be nice. The car handles like a dream, especially if you put on a set of good tires on it. If you read this forum you will see a lot of reference to the distributor troubles a lot of us have. These cars had an ignitor in the distributor that fails. Because a new one costs 5 to 7 hundred dollars (in Canada anyway) people have developed a fix for it. The best years are 95 96 97 as the distributor was supposed to be fixed by then. Half way through 95 they changed to OBD2 which makes diagnosing problems much easier. All in all I think 2nd Gen Probes are very good value. They are not problem free cars, especially as the newest ones are now 10 years old, but the look, handling and just plain fun to drive make up for these shortcomings, at least in my opinion.
