88 2.8 corsica Randomly has no fire HELP!
My corsica ran like a dream until this saturday. It died going down the road. No sputtrering it just cut off. I pulled over and tried to start and nothing after several tries it started and died. Then one more try and it ran great. Sunday it would not start- no fire. So I replace the icm. Started up ran 10 minutes and died, no restart. Later in the day it started and I drove it all over and when I got home it will not start at all- no fire. I have no error codes and no idea where to start. Thank you.

Re: 88 2.8 corsica no randomly no fire HELP!
Have not dealt with a 2.8 but on GM motors firing is controlled by crank sensor, and ignition module and coils. Not likely all three of your coils are dead so would suggest checking the crank sensor. A friend of mine who owned a 88 (3.1) had to replace BOTH ignition module and crank sensor. I am not positive where yours would be, should not be hard to locate, but that is my bet.

In adition to jsgold's suggestions, check the wiring harness from the crank position sensor to the ICM. It runs close to the pasenger side axle and harmonic balancer, and can get abraded.

I changed the crank sensor. It fixed the problem! It was on the bottom backside of the engine. It was cracked up the center and pieces fell off when I got it out. Back on the road. Thank you.
