95 PowerJoke help

I am no way no how a diesel tech.I have a 95 250 4x4 that just simply shuts off at will.Of course this is the shop truck so guess who gets to fix it.Nice to drive,not.Just like hitting the key.Yet fires back up without an issue at all.Idle in park it will just shut down,you don't have to glow it to fire up and it hardly rools at all and it is back up.Driving down the road it sometimes has a fit and hammers your head off the steering wheel,in out in out in out.This is the part were i go pardon?Thoughts accepted here __________________________________________________ ____.

I'm in the UK and I don't even know what an F-Series is, but I drive a 1.8 Escort diesel and the only problem I've had which was vaguely similar was a problem with the fuel supply.

My engine ran fine on the open road but at very low speeds in town, and especially in stop-start traffic, the engine would repeatedly die whilst idling or driving at very low speeds. When I pulled over and lifted the hood I spotted the problem straight away - it had recently been serviced at the Ford dealership and the mechanic hadn't pushed the fuel hose fully home on the inlet to the fuel filter, so the engine was drawing in air along with the fuel. I just pushed the tubing fully home and that completely cured it.

I'm no diesel tech either but your problem sounds similar so I'd check the integrity of the fuel lines and couplings, especially anywhere where they are routinely disturbed for servicing purposes, such as at the fuel filter inlet and outlet.

Trust me it is not the fuel.You could be doing 20k,60k,110k, or 0k .It is all the same.It just shut's off.Period.

If its a DI turbo, the computers gave alot of problems on these. You might want to take it somewhere you trust and have them run diagnostics on the computer and see if it shows any codes.

Oh hell I can do that,been a tech for 23 years and my shop is well equiped.It's what to do with the info when I get it. There are not any codes on this hot rod, which I find odd.I had a buddy tell me of a recall on the one had for a kill switch of some sort, he is not a tech so that didn't help me a whole bunch.

LOL!!! Ok, no need to get your feathers ruffled, you didnt say you were a mechanic. But you did say:

When it dies and you try to restart it, does the tach move while cranking? If it doesnt it could indicate a bad cps. Also could be a problem with the hpop. Have you checked the oil in the hpop res. ? Sweet. didn't realize they had a cps.Good place to start.The feathers weren't even close to being ruffled.LOL.I have spent 23 years trying real freekin hard to stay away from these noisy stinking diesels. Let you know dude.Thanx.

I know what you mean about the noisy stinking diesels. LOL Ive owned several, both cars and trucks, but i dont think i want another one. Especially now that theyve all gone to electronic injection. I work on em for other people, but they have too many expensive parts that give alot of trouble to suit me for my own use. Let us know if you need something else.

Would you believe I had kicked the POS in the shop last night so I could toss a starter in the thing this morning and the damn thing ran just fine all morning.If diesel didn't burn so freekin slow I light the thing up.I guess I will have to wait and see.Not about to believe a starter fixed this issue.I checked out that ford site, they got a handle on the f series trucks.Thanx again and we will post what happens.

what's wrong with it sitting idling?

Engine damage will happen.The powerstoke is not made for sitting idling in park.My father found out this from a seminar on the powerstroke diesel by AutoValue auto parts stores

Well looks like it was the cps,wadda ya know.Ask and ye shall recieve.As for the idleing issue,I can't say for sure but I would just venture a guess that about 1 million guys might arguee that point.Can you imagine being in Fort Mac or even Alaska and shutting off your diesel? Got extention cord?Thanx bubbles.
