Re: What kind of exhaust should I get for my WS6?
I love flowmaster in gen1 SBCs, and I would probably love it in LT1s or LS1s but I don't think I've heard it on those engines before. Mr. Lous doesn't like flomaster because of the restriction but he's making 500+hp and if he were to switch his magnaflows for flowmasters there would probably be less than a 15hp differance. And any car that has less power than his car is going lose even less hp. I like the LT LM combo at idle and when the RPMs are going up, at both part throttle and WOT it sounds awesome. BUT when the RPMs go down it pops and cracks really bad. Plus long tubes + loudmouth = DRONE DRONE DRONE. Think flowmaster drone * 4.

Re: What kind of exhaust should I get for my WS6?
flowmaster has its place, just not on ls1's. I had flowmaster on my old 3.4 v6 grand am and I loved it, but i hate the sound on ls1's and it (dyno-proven) will net you the least amount of power over other brands even on a completely stock car.

Re: What kind of exhaust should I get for my WS6?
I will say this about flowmaster, the flowmaster catback that came with the car sounded great. Deep idle and loud at WOT. But when I installed longtubes, everything got quite. Its the strangest thing. I thought a loud catback with longtubes would be a little louder, but its not. I can barely hear it at idle inside the car. And it mellows out up top as well. That's why I'm changing mine. Sound-wise though, flowmaster is good.

I like the LM exhaust. I don't think there is such a thing as too loud. I had my '92 RS dumped behind the headers for a couple of days and it was loud, but not too loud.

Why spend money on a catback that doesn't really add much performance??
It isn't just the restriction. It is the fact that there are plenty of better options that actually give you gains and sound.
Flowmasters sound okay in my opinion. Magnaflow sounds better (opinion of course), and will gain several ponies over the Flowmaster system.
To me, power is power at any level. The less you make the more I would think you want to get out of your exhaust.

Because most people would rather have a catback that they like the sound of more than they would like to spend a couple hundred more for 3 hp gain.

Opinion. Flowmaster gives horsepower gains and great sound plus usually costs less than other systems. Personally, I love flowmaster's sound on most cars, much more than magnoflow. There are many people out there that feel the same way and would rather save at least a $100 over the magnoflow and buy a flowmaster. On a stock car, that $100 dollars can be spent on other mods that will more than make up the 3 hp between exaust systems.

The less you make the less hp you'll lose to the exaust. If you drive a lower hp car then I think you would be much more concerned about having a sound you like than a couple hp.

We won't agree on this.
Magnaflow > Flowmaster

Re: What kind of exhaust should I get for my WS6?
I see what Nate is saying and I agree. MOST people buy exhaust for the sound, not necessarily for performance gains. But MOST of us don't have a HUGE Friggin' Built motor that we want to squeeze every little pony out of.
But I also see what Luos is saying in that 10 hp is 10 hp. But for most street cars, a mean sound trumps a few ponies.

I agree with that .
If I went to the dyno and made 399 wheel horsepower maybe I'd reconsider getting a higher flowing catback cause that little extra to break into the 400s would be nice to have. Right now I've got dynomax catback, but I don't have a clue which one. It's nice but I would like it louder, I'm getting tired of the whole sleeper thing, I just want it to roar. Damn I wish Borla wasn't 800 some bucks, I love their adjustibility.
