Matt black vs Flat black?
Sorry, this must seem like a dumb question to some.. but:
What is the difference between flat black and matt black? definitions I have found so far: matt (also spelled matte): French mat, from Old French, faded, defeated : lacking or deprived of luster or gloss: as a : having a usually smooth even surface free from shine or highlights <matte metals> <a matte finish> b : having a rough or granular surface flat: hrm, of all the online dictionaries I have tried, no definitions fit. So.. my own: A surface that does not reflect light well due to it being uneven. So far I'm guessing that: flat looks flat yet is 'bumpy' matt looks flat but is smooth? Very muddled here... Thanks for any clarifications beforehand. Steve

different brands different labels.
as far as i know, only tamiya use the term "flat"; i mean, i don't recall them having a "matte" paint in their acrylic range.

Re: Matt black vs Flat black?
testors has flat, and matte in their model master line of enamels. from what I can tell, the MATTE has a super dull finish that doesn't reflect at all, where the flat is just a bit more dull than semi gloss. this is from personal experience using the model master paints, and model master airbrush enamel thinner mixed approximately 3 parts paint to 1 part thinner, or thinned to the consistency of whole milk.
