I like rap, but its harder to defend contemporary rap. Most of the hit singles on the radio are usually are about nothing, but thats so that they get the appeal of more people. Using good beats and a subject that many people like. ex. more people would like to hear about rims and money than war and politics. Most of the artists' deeper songs are hidden within their albums. And also there is a distinct difference in rap between different regions. Northern rap usually has more substance and meaning than rap from the South. But Southern rappers usually have better beats and North rappers tend to sample from older tracks because the north is where a lot of good music was back in the day. But anyway, how is rap any worse than those metal bands that scream and or grunt into the microphone with no intelligible word at all?

Don't know about the stations where you are, but NONE of the stations around here play honest to goodness metal (and no Metallica doesn't qualify as metal anymore, neither does Korn or any of those type bands) before 10 PM or so. Young kids (under say 10 years of age) don't stay up that late and don't hear it. And you would be talking about Death Metal, which gets NO airtime whatsoever anywhere I've been.

Even Slipknot's singer ain't hard to figure out what he's saying after you get used to his voice... and at least he's speaking a language... ebonics doesn't qualify. Anyway... slipknot doesn't get much airtime outside of Iowa anyway.

Funny part is if you listen to Stern or Barsky, O & A, Kid Chris, etc, they ALL play metal in their shows... just keep play clips from sings, never the lyrical parts, but still...

Rap sucks. (IMO).

not mad or anything... in fact.. I used to like Run DMC and Schooly D and some of those guys when Rap first got popular. The music was fun then... now it's all about drugs, violence and sex... and nothing else.

I guess the same can be said for the most part about metal these days..

Alright im not going to turn this into a political thread or make it offtopic into that way, buuuut believe it or not we need illegal immigrants and if congress really wanted illegals out, believe me they'd do something about it.. but nope, all they will do is talk and talk, while secretly thanking them for cheap labor..

Slipknot has changed.. ever since their 3rd CD.. I stopped listening.. ALSO Jim believe it or not, rappers do have songs that have meaning in them, you HAVE TO buy the CD to ever listen to it because the radio will always play the crap that is on singles because many dont care about the stuff with meaning when listening to the radio.
