Re: Grinding Noise Under Dash

I knew I didn't make the distributorless ignition thing up. I quote from alldata.com,

"As the engine speed increases, the pistons go faster. The spark plugs have to ignite the fuel even sooner if it is to be completely ignited when the piston reaches TDC. The Electronic Spark Timing (EST) system makes all timing changes electronically based on signals from various sensors. The 1994-97 2.2L engine and 1996-97 4.3L engine uses a distributorless Electronic Ignition (EI) system. Operation of the EI system allows for fully electronic control of the timing."

So, do I have a distributor or not? Sure looks like i do, but then again, my isuzu rodeo i KNOW has distributorless ignition and its module looks similar.

How many coils have you got? If you don't have a distributor then you will have to have a coil for each cylinder.

Re: Grinding Noise Under Dash

No, i definitely have a distributor, it just really threw me that alldata states that about the blazer code W. Weird. Anyway, just got back from Oreilly and they think the grinding noise is as simple as a dry throttle linkage. they told me to spray it up with some lube. I'll try it tomorrow in the daylight. Any opinions on their diagnostics?

btw - pcv valve works properly

If the linkage does need to be lubed; what is the best way of going about it? WD40? lithium grease? Any suggestions

Re: Grinding Noise Under Dash

So the sound is still there , Pull the glove box out and feel around while it is running and find it that way .
I have had this sound since I did away with my TBI and converted to carb . Mine goes away when i connect the injectors back to the wire harness . I think it is a relay in the computer trying to operate something that is not connected anymore or has a bad connection . Just my thoughts . Rob
