Re: HVAC control - clicking sound

Make sure you specify whether you have climate control or manual A/C, as the blower motors are different. AC-Delco numbers for reference are as follows:
97-99, 00 1st design w/manual a/c; 15-8949 (gm#52489321)
97-99, 00 1st design w/auto a/c ; 15-8950 (gm#52489322)
00 2nd design -03 w/manual a/c ; 15-8880 (gm#52487083)
00 2nd design -03 w/ auto a/c ; 15-8940 (gm#52487088)
if your car is a 00, the oem sticker will determine which one you need, as there is no vin# cut-off.

Thanks for the great tip on a cabin air filter. Why these cars would not be equipped with it from the factory is beyond me. As I work in the HVAC business, i know that filtration of incoming air is so very important, and appreciate the link. Installing a cabin filter is a brilliant idea.

Good point. Yeah, that has been a big mystery for us GP owners. If there is one that is only because the owner installed one. I have to change mine out every 6 months or so because of the dust storms we get. Cleaning more frequently. I installed mine back in 1998 after I noticed excessive dust in the vents.

I use the same ones for my Regals. BTW - I still have my original blower motor 8 years later as a result.

I don't have one on mine and I still have the original 9 years later. Maybe I need to put one in.

lol. I'm surprised you haven't put in a least three with your mileage.

It wouldn't hurt. I do it out of necessity. Freaks the parts guy out at Autozone or Checker. I get three at a hit. 3 GM "W" bodies to maintain.

But I found a generic direct fit cabin air filter at Checker/Kragen/Schucks. $11.00 plus tax.

I'll check mine out next week after the race this weekend at Atlanta. Don't want to get involved in anything that interferes with race weekend.

Atlanta? I used to live and work in Marietta (Cobb County). Both of my boys were born there. Lots of things to do in the Atlanta and surrounding areas. Nice place to live.

Have fun!

Re: HVAC control - clicking sound

I'm putting one in mine when I get around to changing the squeaking blower motor. It's too cold right now, and it only squeaks at middle speeds, on high and low it's fine so it can wait.

Now that you mention it, I remember my fan squeaks a little on low. I haven't driven my car that much in the last threee weeks.
I live about 30 miles south of the Atlanta track. It's much too crowded around the city and especially the north around Cobb and Gwinnett counties.

If blower motor checks out then you have another bad BMR as long as there are no other symptoms or electrical faults. Also, check the blower HVAC fuse.
Hello Bnaylor3400,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Got a little side tracked with work and all. Anyway, I changed the HVAC blower motor and all is well again. Not a lot of room to work down there, but I sure am glad I'm left handed :-) One thing left to do, get that cabin air filter. When I had the blower motor out I had a look up and can see how that filter can be rather important in stopping water coming in.

Thanks again for you help.

Cheers from Toronto.

Not a problem and you are welcome. We're here to help. Sounds like you have it all under control. Good job!

What year and model Grand Prix? Do you have a manual or digital climate control system?

The dual digital climate control uses a temperature actuator (total of two)which is motor driven based on where the respective driver's or passenger's temperature is set. The driver's and passenger's side are independent of each other. The one you may be having problems with is located on the left hand side of the HVAC assembly or center of the dash. Thats one possibility. The other is your AC system is low on refrigerant charge. When charge is low the passenger side will work OK but the driver's side will feel warm or not cool.

Last possibility is a defective climate control head unit. The digital system has a diagnostics mode or test you can run but it may not be too helpful.
