99 buick la sabre 3.8 stalls after running for 30 min. or so
I have a 99 buick la sabre and after running it for about 20-40 minutes the the engine will stall out and won't restart unless you let it sit for about 20 minutes. When the car stall out it sounds like a vacuum hose came off, I checked all the hosses and they are all on. When I was working on it today I checked to make sure that each coil pack was making a spark and it was , when it stalled with the key on the on position heard a clicking noise comming from the "idle air control valve", it would click once then it would do 2 or three clicks, when I went to pull off the valve I noticed that it was really hot. When it idles it has a slight vibration in it also. I don't know what that valve does, so I was wondering if that valve is bad, would it make my car shut off after running for 20-30 minutes. When trying to restart it after it stalls you can kinda smell fuel from the exhaust.

This sounds more like the classic erratic signal problem from the crank sensor. When it is starting and running, of course you will have spark. You need to check for spark when it dies. The smell of fuel when you try to start it after a stall, sounds like the lack of spark. I don't think the idle air control solenoid has anything to do with your problem. It is just confused when the engine looses ignition and tries to compensate for that. Also, it would not cause the engine to cut off while driving and not restart for twenty minutes.

That is when I checked for a spark is when the engine died, would is still be the crankcase sensor even if the car stalls when its not moving. I started it up and let it idle in one spot for about thirty minutes and it stalled out.

If you have spark while trying to start it after it died, and it will not start, that should eliminate the ICM & crank sensor. You may have fuel (pump, regulator or relay), or PCM related problems. You need to get it scanned to see what codes you have. Fuel pressure problems will not set a code, so you need to check the fuel pressure while it is not starting also.

Re: 99 buick la sabre 3.8 stalls after running for 30 min. or so
I just ordered a TBI fuel pressure tester, when I hook it up what is a good fuel pressure? I also did hook it up to the computer and there was no codes, so hopefully the pressure tester will solve the problem.

It should range from 38-45 psi on the rail.
